niranda Brown is a Reba
McEntire fan from way back.
That’s why she just happened
to notice the contest on Reba.
Com.
“I didn’t think there was
a chance,” she says, “but I
clicked it anyway.”
On May 2 she was astonished to learn
that she had won. She found out that she
would have a chance to meet McEntire
in person in Phoenix, Ariz. During the
Whirlpool Building Blocks for Humanity
Event, organized to build nine affordable
homes.
Brown, a former Northside High School
varsity cheerleading captain, knew all about
Habitat for Humanity because she is now a
student at Georgia Southwestern University
in Americus, where the organization began
and still has its international headquarters.
She flew to Phoenix with her mother,

and talk with McEntire personally.
She and the other winner met with
many of the Habitat volunteers, and had
the opportunity to sit down and talk with
McEntire in her RV.
“Reba welcomed us wholeheartedly,”
Brown says.””l gave her a hug and after
everyone was seated comfortably, she
said, ‘Well, do y’ali have any questions for
me?”’
After a talk that touched on everything
from McEntire’s involvement with Habitat
to her career in music and the cancellation
of her television show, Brown left with an
autographed copy of McEntire’s book.
It was a life-changing event for Brown.
She had the thrill of meeting a singer and
actress she had long admired, but she also
has made two new plans.
' She’s going to sign up for McEntire’s and
Whirlpool’s next Habitat building event,
which will be in Houston, Texas, and she
said she is also going to change her major
from nursing to marketing, because she
was “so impressed with the work done - by
McEntire’s events coordinator.”
