■ Voted to establish the
position of Fire Inspector. Fire
Chief Joel Gray reviewed the
Red Cross to
offer training
Special to the Journal
When disaster strikes,
the Red Cross is there, but,
to provide that response,
trained volunteers are need
ed. On Sept. 29, the Houston
Middle Georgia Chapter of
the American Red Cross
will provide orientation and
initial training for poten
tial loaners through volun
teer recruitment and initial
training event in the Middle
Georgia Technical College
auditorium.
“We need well-trained,
dedicated volunteers to
respond to local disasters,
such as home fires or torna
does,” said Charles Seymour,
emergency Services Director
for the local chapter. “We
also need good people to be
able t respond to major disas
ters, as we did for Hurricane
Katrina. Those people need
to have the time to spend
preparing and deploying to
the disaster area.”
The training event begins
at 9 a.m. with an orienta
tion session and an oppor
tunity to meet volunteers
who responded to 9/11 and
Hurricane Katrina. Following
a catered lunch, the first
training session begins. The
event will end at 4 p.m. To
leam more call 923-6332.
