Man gets 30 - 1G to serve - without parole

Thirty years. That’s what
Adrian Rashawn Bynum
received after he pleaded
guilty and was sentenced Oct.
3 to Possession of Cocaine
with Intent to Distribute,
Obstruction of an Officer,
Possession of Marijuana
(less than one ounce),
Fleeing or Attempting
to Elude a Police Officer,
Failure to Maintain Lane,
and Reckless Driving.
Judge Katherine K.
Lumsden, according to a
release, sentenced Bynum to
30 years to serve 16 years in
prison, without parole.

Perry to get another CVS drug store

Ground hasn’t been broken
yet for the new Walgreen’s
at Commerce and Ball, but
plans are already under way
for still another drugstore
in Perry.
This time it’s a CVS, to be
built on the northwest cor
ner of Houston Lake Road
and Perry Parkway.
“I can’t believe it,” Mayor
Jim Worrall commented,
adding with a laugh, “We
ought to be able to find aspi
rin cheap.”

The Perry Rotary Club and
the City of Perry have gotten
a big project under way at
Big Indian Creek.
Now there’s a big grant
from the state to continue
the effort which will turn
the area along the creek into
a recreational asset, with a
walking trail along the creek
from Martin Luther King, Jr.
Drive near Courtney Hodges
Blvd. to Creekside Park.
From that point,, the plan
ners hope eventually to
extend the walking path to
the state-owned Flat Creek
fishing area along U.S. 41,
which is to become a state
park. The first step in the
Big Indian Creek project -
clearing and beautifying the
area around the creek which
is near the creek bridge on
Group to poll fairgoers

A group of Houston
and Bibb County citizens
announced Tuesday that
they will host the Middle
Georgia Straw Poll at the
Georgia National Fair being
held now through the Oct.
14 at the Georgia National
Fairgrounds in Perry.
The straw poll is being
held to see which Republican
presidential candidates fair
goers would support in the
Presidential Election in
November 2008.
The Macon Ron Paul 2008
MeetUp group is hosting the
event during regular fair
hours in conjunction with
their booth for Republican
Presidential Candidate Ron
Paul.
Those interested in voting
in the Middle Georgia Straw
Poll will find the booth locat
ed in the Georgia Building
on the Fairgrounds. The poll
is open to anyone eligible to
vote in the November 2008
election.
All votes will be tallied Oct.
15 and results posted online
at the Macon MeetUp Group
website as well as distributed
through local news media.

was Possession of Cocaine
with Intent to Distribute.
The final five years of the
sentence were suspended.
On all additional counts,
Bynum was sentenced to 12
months to serve in prison to
run concurrent with the 30-
year sentence.
“With this sentence,
Houston County sends the
message that repeat drug
dealers will suffer harsh
consequences for continu
ing to terrorize our neigh
borhoods,” said Assistant
District Attorney Timothy
Harlow. “The District
Attorney’s Office appreciates
the extraordinary efforts of
the Warner Robins Police
Department in this matter.
In particular, Officer James
Jones and Sgt. Danny Hicks
showed great initiative dur
ing the course of this inci
dent and prosecution.”
According to the release,
Initial plans for the 13,225
sq. ft. CVS have been sub
mitted to the Perry Planning
and Zoning office by Foresite
Group, which is based in
Norcross.
Mignon Hamilton at
Foresite confirmed the plan,
and said that it would take
about six months to build
once the approvals were
given by the city for the
building plans. There is
no rezoning requirement
because the land is already
zoned commercial.
Courtney Hodges - has been
completed as a Rotary Club
project.
The next step, developing
the walking path to Creekside
Park, has already begun with
volunteers and city workers
clearing out accumulated
debris from the dense growth
on the side of the creek.
Sen. Ross Tolleson
announced Monday that a
SIOO,OOO grant for the proj
ect will be given to the City
of Perry by the Georgia
Department of Natural
Resources. The city will
match the funds with $50,000
in in-kind services.
The grant was announced
at a small ceremony held at
the site, with Rotary lead
ers, volunteers from Hands
On Georgia and Perry Mayor
JimWorrall in attendance.

on Feb. 27, Hicks and Jones
and two others were out on
patrol near Green Street on
Ivemess Avenue when they
observed Bynum’s vehicle
failing to maintain lane.
They began to follow
Bynum’s vehicle until it
pulled into a cul-de-sac.
Once there, Bynum turned
his vehicle so that it faced
the officer’s unmarked car
and flashed his high beams
at them.
Shortly thereafter, Bynum
rapidly accelerated at the
officer’s car and pursued
them to the intersection with
Green Street. The officers
came to a stop at that loca
tion and exited their vehicle.
Upon seeing that he was
pursuing law enforcement,
Bynum whipped his vehicle
around and fled the scene,
almost striking a Groom
Transportation Bus.
A marked unit arrived on
the scene at that moment,
and he pursued Bynum back
to 111 Ivemess Ave. All five

officers quickly converged
on the home that Bynum
had pulled around, but did
not immediately see Bynum
there.
Before they could spread
out, Bynum exited the front
door of his home breathing
heavily, sweating profusely,
and demanding to know why
the officers were there.
The officers asked for and
received consent to search
the home for the driver, but
recognized Bynum once they
entered the well lit interior
of the residence. In addi
tion, There were no other
individuals found in the
home. Jones placed Bynum
under arrest and discovered
a bag of powder cocaine in
Bynum’s pocket as well as
small bag of marijuana.
Officers later searched the
house pursuant to a search
warrant and discovered 17
additional bags of powder
cocaine, numerous small
drug baggies, scales and
smoking devices.
