Westfield names Deems as Head of School

The Board of Trustees
of The Westfield School in
Perry announced Monday
the hiring of Rachel S.
Deems as the Head of School
for the 2008-09 school year.
Deems holds a B.A. degree
from. Judson College with
an M.A. from the University
of Alabama.
According to a release
from the school, she brings
to Westfield a wealth of
experience, having served in
administrative and leader
ship positions in education
for more than 28 years.
She is currently the
Director of Development
of Stratford Academy in
Sapp named a 2008 Georgia Distinguished Principal
Represents District Three at state level

Harold Sapp, principal of Hilltop
Elementary School, has been selected
as the 2008 Georgia Distinguished
Principal for District 3.
According to a release, every year
the Georgia Association of Elementary
School Principals identifies exemplary
school leaders in 10 districts through
the Georgia Distinguished Principal
program.
One principal from each district is
chosen by their peers to represent
their district at the state level.
Sapp commented, “It is probably
a cliche to say that my great and
unexpected fortune in being selected
as the Distinguished Principal of the
Third District is one of the high

Butler made a sur
prise visit to his
daughter’s class
after returning from
Afghanistan. He
came bearing gifts
from the desert for
the class and teach
ers, Leelee Lewis and
Susan Carpenter.

held for over eight years.
Additionally, she served as
Assistant Vice-President and
Assistant to the President at
Mercer University’s Macon
campus and on its Atlanta
campus the positions of
Assistant Provost, Assistant
to the President and Chief
Administrative Officer.
Earlier in her career she
served as the Vice President
for Student Affairs and
Dean of Students, Director
of Adult Degree Programs
and Director of Alumnae at
Judson College.

according to the release, is

Perry Middle School Family and Consumer Sciences

examined the effects of substance abuse recently dur
ing Red Ribbon Week. According to a release, they pre
sented their findings to their peers and even had School
Resource Officer Craig Fowler visit their classroom.
Fowler informed the students about the harmful effects
of drunk driving. Other topics of the week included stay
ing in school and internet safety.

Area 111 Meats Judging
Competition held last month
in Athens qualified the team
to compete at state. The
team is already preparing
for the national contest.
