At 10:29 of the first half,
D. J. Jones took a corner kick
for Warner Robins, and on a
second try Barrett put the
Demons ahead 2-0. Cameron
Luck, at 3:21 on the clock,
knocked one in the net from
about 25 yards deep, and
that sent Warner Robins
into halftime up 3-0.
The Demons remained
the aggressors for most of
the second half, though Max
Burgess and Adrien Delestre
of the Northside defense
prevented a pair of goals in
the first five minutes. Daniel
Carrazco also made a fine
play heading the ball away
after a close free kick from
the right side of the box.
Bears struggle in opener
By JOE MATTHEWS

The Houston County
Bears fell to the Peach
County Trojans 16-4 in
both teams’ season open
ers Wednesday night in Fort
Valley. The weather front
that had pushed the game
back by one day left frigid
conditions: temperatures
in the 30s and a stiff north
west breeze dropping the
wind chill below freezing.
The Bears jumped out
front for three runs in the
top of the first. Kyle Davis
walked and Chad Roughton
doubled. Chris Thompson’s
sacrifice fly was misplayed
for a run. He and Davis
would later score on wild
pitches.
Control was an issue for
Bear hurlers, and the home
team took full advantage.

ters walked. One out later,

David Clark of Warner
Robins, playing in the sweep
er position, had a fine game
as a leader in shutting down
the Northside offense. He
would also set up a goal with
a strong kick from the cen
terline. Bernardo Andrade
took that ball and put the
home team up 4-0 at 34:05.
Drapeau became the
fifth Demon to score as he
knocked the ball in from the
side of his foot at 25:56.
Northside forward Ben
Carter ended the shutout
as he found the goalkeeper
away from the line. Evan
Arthur took over as the Eagle
keeper midway through the
half and had four saves, one
on a ball that went off the
post and off his head and
another on an Adams free
kick.
Kyle Wisniewski and Sean
Taylor split the match as
fence inside the right field
foul pole for a grand slam.
Another run scored on a
dropped third strike, put
ting Peach up 5-3. The
Bears got one back in the
second. Philip Knauer sin
gled. Davis replaced him on
a fielder’s choice and later
scored on a Peach error.
The wheels came off for
HoCo in the bottom of the
second. A hit batter, a sin
gle and four walks plated
three Trojan runs. With two
outs, a critical error allowed
in two more and a home run
added two more.
The Bears loaded the
based with no outs in the
fourth but were unable to
score. The Trojans tacked
on an unearned run in the
fifth to complete the scor
ing.
“We didn’t handle the
adversity of the cold and
wind very well,” said head
coach Kenny Yanzetich.
“But we’ll bounce back.”
