an entire cast living and rehearsing at a second-rate
hotel on Times Square, building up a huge bill. They
also have a naive young playwright who has arrived from
Oswego with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes and an
old typewriter, a hotel supervisor breathing down their
necks and, by mid-play, a backer whose anonymity must
be protected.
Best known as a Marx Brothers movie, the play com
bines slapstick with endless plot complications, twists
and turns, and has wonderful comic stretches - including
the opening scene in which the Miller and his cohorts
plan to skip without paying their bill, and are putting
on one suit on top of another, and a grand “death scene”
near the end, when they stall for time by making speech
es and singing repeated choruses of “Swing Low, Sweet
Chariot” while pretending that the young playwright is
dead.
Roch Gillmore, as the playwright Leo Davis, is a
teenager who warms to his role as the physical comedy
increases. Watch this young man in the future because
he’s got talent. He gets dragged across the floor, is in and
out of various clothes, does a grand job of groaning and
faking his own death, and is hilarious when ravenously
attacking a tray of food.
Wilson himself has a small but key role as Sasha
Smirnoff, an actor trained in Russia who is reduced to
pushing a room-service tray, and is outstanding in a brief
scene in which he reads so convincingly for a role that the
others leap into the drama themselves.
David Kelley has the audience’s sympathy as the hap
less hotel manager caught between a brother-in-law
whose talent he believes in, and an officious supervisor
who wants the bills paid - played with villainous pompos
ity by Michael Qualis.
Paula Romans was perfectly cast as Miller’s long-suf
fering girlfriend and ambitious actress.
Chuck Mellenkopf, Preston Martin, Katie Westbrook,
Gary Deibert, Jarrod Johansen and Katie Westbrook
make up the rest of the comic cast, with Sarah Spillers
and Brianna Romans as Show Card Girls.
Congratulations to all. It’s one funny play.
RS.Take special note of the very successful window
treatment on this set, and the truly ridiculous mooseh
ead.

article will
further
explain kennel cough and
whether your dog is at risk
for contracting it.
Kennel cough is typically
caused by one of two organ
isms: Bordetella bronchisep
tica (board-a-tell-a bron-ki
sept-ica) or parainfluenza
virus. The vaccination
referred to as the kennel
cough vaccine specifically
targets B. bronchiseptica.
The vaccination for parain
fluenza virus is a component
of the distemper complex
vaccine. Many dogs receive
the distemper vaccine as
part of their annual vaccina
tions. Both B. bronchiseptica
and parainfluenza virus are
highly contagious and can be
spread by direct contact, by
the virus or bacteria becom
ing airborne, or by touching
inanimate objects such as
a pen, shirt, medical chart,
or computer keyboard. If
precautions are not taken,
humans can pass the illness
unknowingly from one dog
to another once it has con
tacted items such as these.
The initial symptom of
kennel cough is generally
spontaneous coughing. The
cough may or may not be pro
ductive and usually worsens
with activity. The infected
dog may have a runny nose
as well as runny eyes. He
may also be sluggish and

less active than normal
and can run a fever. These
symptoms usually begin two
to three days after being
exposed.
While kennel cough is
relatively common, keep in
mind that there are other
more serious diseases that
can cause similar symptoms.
Infectious canine hepatitis,
canine distemper virus, and
pneumonia are a few exam
ples. The only way to be cer
tain of what is causing your
pet’s symptoms is to have
your veterinarian examine
him and run the necessary
diagnostic tests.
Dogs with the highest risk
of contracting kennel cough
are those not vaccinated and
staying at a boarding ken
nel or a grooming facility.
Unvaccinated dogs can also
be at risk if they are travel

the pet store, or the dog

are vaccinated are not safe
from the threat of all infec
tious coughs since there are
many strains of bacteria,

can cause upper respiratory

Keeping your dog’s dis

important for upper respira
