Those of you who
know which team
I was pulling for
on Saturday know what I
am dying to write about.
Oh, just what I’d love to
say! But, then, it hit me.
The best thing I saw this
weekend wasn’t the score
of a game but how one col
lege football player treated
a group of young children.
What I witnessed this week
end was true character and

Use keyboard shortcuts instead of a mouse
The mouse is a won
derful way to easily
navigate your way
around Windows and other
programs. However, depend
ing on the work you are
doing, the mouse may actu
ally slow you down. If you
are a good typist, taking your
hands off of the keyboard to
use the mouse uses up time.
Over the course of a day
you could have saved your
self several minutes by using
keyboard shortcuts instead
of the mouse.
So here are a couple of
timesaving ways to use key
board shortcuts and save
some of your valuable time.
Starting a program: The
start menu is great for orga
nizing and finding programs,
but, its multiple levels can be
time consuming to navigate.
If there is a program that you
start frequently, you should
set a keyboard shortcut so
you can start the program
without taking your hands
off the keyboard.
To set a keyboard shortcut
to start a program, click on
the Start menu, and then click
All Programs. Right click the
program that you want to
start with a keyboard short
cut, like Internet Explorer,
and then click on Properties.
Click the Shortcut Key tab.
Now press any letter on
your keyboard that you want

about it. Having a boyfriend

to use to start the program.
Let’s use the letter “I” for
Internet Explorer. You can
use either uppercase or lower
case letters when creating
your keyboard shortcut and
accessing them later. In the
Shortcut Key box, Microsoft
Windows XP automatically
adds CTRL-ALT before the
key you pressed. When you
want to start the program
hit CTRL-ALT before the let
ter you selected. This way
the program will not start
every time you type that let
ter. Click OK and now test
your shortcut. Hold down
the CTRL and ALT keys, and
then press on the letter you
chose. Your program should
start.
You can speed up tasks
in almost any program by
choosing menu items using
the keyboard instead of your
mouse. This operation is par
ticularly handy if you use
repetitive tasks. For example,
open up Internet Explorer.
Few things are as complex
as relationships, especially
for young people who can’t
process all of the emotions
and experiences. Despite
expectations to the contrary,
dating is often more about
getting what you want than
the mutual self sacrifice so
Friday night, Westfield
hosted a pre-game ceremony
in honor of 2004 Graduate,
James Liipfert, who received
a full football scholarship
to Georgia Tech. After the
ceremony, James stayed to
cheer on the Hornets as they
took on one of their biggest
rivals, Stratford.
During the game, I noticed
a “gang” of little green
Westfield jerseys all running
in a mad dash towards some
thing, when I recognized a
very familiar little blond
head in the group. I thought
it would be a good idea to go
see what they were up to.
When I finally caught
up with them, they were
waiting in line for James
Liipfert’s autograph.
Kindergarten student,
Robert Kinnas, looked up
at James and said: “Will you
sign my football”? With total
innocence, he handed James
a University of Georgia foot
ball. James took the Georgia
football shook his head just
a little but happily signed it.
Robert took the ball and said,
“I got a real college football
player’s autograph”.
Georgia Tech linebacker,
No. 30 James Liipfert, could
have ruined that moment
Once the program is open
press the ALT key. You will
notice that one letter on each
of the Menu items is under
lined. Under Favorites the
“a” is underlined. To view
your Favorites just hit the
letter “a” and the menu will
open.
Or try hitting the “V” key
for View and then hit “R” for
Refresh. So the menu and
the submenus can be con
trolled without taking your
hands off of the computer.
Again this can be used in
any program that you open,
so give it a try, once you get
used to it, it will make your
computer experience a lot
more satisfying.
If you find it difficult to
hold down two keys at once,
Windows XP has a program
called the Sticky Keys fea
ture. To activate it press on
the Shift key five times. A
dialog box will open with
instructions on how to set up
the Sticky Keys feature. With
Sticky Keys enabled, you can
press and release the Shift,
CTRL, ALT, or Windows key
and Windows will hold down
the key for you. For example,
to type a capital A, you could
press and release the SHIFT
key, and then press and
release the A key. To turn off
Sticky Keys, press the SHIFT
key five times, and Click can-'
cel in the Sticky Keys dialog
crucial to marriage.
We may have gotten it
wrong in our dating lives,
but as parents we can do a
lot to help our own kids avoid
what often resembles a dress
rehearsal for divorce instead
of preparation for life-long
committed marriage.

Finally here is one of the
questions I received that I
feel is a common problem:
Question: Why are laptop
touchpads so cumbersome to
use? Can I make the touch
pad work better withbut
attaching a separate mouse?
Answer: Yes, there is a way
to control the Touchpad
sensitivity via the settings
found in the Control Panel.
Click and open the Control
Panel. Select the Mouse
entry under the Mouse icon.
Select the Pointer Options
tab and adjust the point
er speed so that the mouse
moves faster or slower. It
may take a few times to
get the right adjustment.
Click on Apply to save your
changes and OK to close the
dialog box. This is not limit
ed to Laptops these settings
may also be adjusted on any
desktop computer.
Also, depending on what
operating system you are
using, Windows 2000,
Windows XP or Windows
Vista, some of the options
may be different. However, it
is all under the Control Panel
and under either Hardware
