Perry takes
on sewage,
other issues
By CHARLOTTE
PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
Sewage was a major topic
for the Perry City Council on
Tuesday night.
At the work session they
discussed plans for the Go
Fish visitor’s center adja
cent to the Georgia National
Fairground.
The city is working with
the state on the project,
which is anticipated to be a
tourism draw.
City manager Lee Gilmour
recommended that the coun
cil postpone any votes on
funding the water line exten
sion for the center until
the amount of the request
will be known, as well as
waiting on information
from the Houston County
Development Authority,
another partner in the effort,
regarding interest rates.
Gilmore suggested that it
would not be cost effective
for the city to hook up the
sewage system to city lines
because of the distance from
the center’s rest rooms to
the city’s system, and rec
ommended considering a
septic tank instead, which
will require an exemption
voted on by council.
Local realtor and Perry
Chamber President Daniel
Brown spoke during the reg
ular meeting pointing out
that sewage had backed up
into two houses on Frank
Satterfield Road, flooding
the inside of the homes, with
extensive damage to one of
the homes, which he owns
as a rental property. Brown
asked that the council put
backflow preventors on all
of the houses on the street
to prevent further sewage
backup.' He said that in the
home that suffered the worst
damage, floors and drywall
were having to be replaced.
In other business, the
council:

By CHARLOTTE PERKINS

Republican Congressional can

Marshall stood his ground on the
