Lee Greenwood to
perform Oct. 18
By DON MONCRIEF
Journal Managing Editor
He must have liked it so
much - or others must have
liked him so much (probably
a whole lot of both) - that
he’s set to make his return.
Lee Greenwood will be per
forming again in Warner
Robins Oct. 18 as part of the
Museum of Aviation’s grand
opening of its World War II
Memorial Hangar.
Greenwood, who is also
a strong supporter of
Operation Never Forgotten,
has had numerous hits over
the years, but none bigger
with audiences today than
“God Bless the USA”.
Operation Never
Forgotten, by the way, is a
non-profit, non-partisan
national media communica
tions organization, accord
ing to its website, “keeping
those serving our country
since 9/11/01 in the public
forefront.”
“ONF creates recognition
and remembrance through
campaigns for our deployed
troops, wounded warriors,
fallen heroes, military fami
lies and veterans.”
They do that through, as
you would expect, radio,

“This is a dream come
true for Centerville,” said
print ads, displays, videos
and “thousands” of bill
boards across the country.
As far as God Bless the
USA, it has become, accord
ing to Greenwood’s website,
more popular than “God
Bless America” and the
“National Anthem”.
Other songs he’s had at
the top of the charts include:
“Ring on Her Finger, Time
on Her Hands”, “1.0. U”
( which earned him Top Male
Vocal Performance honors in
1983), “It Turns Me Inside
Out”, “Somebody’s Gonna
Love You”, “I Don’t Mind
the Thorns” and “Dixie
Road”.
He also has a new song
out, “USA Today”. And, as
an extra added pleasure, he
will be performing alongside
the Band of the Air Force
Reserve.
The concert is set to take
place in front of the museum
at 5:30 p.m. It is free and
open to everybody but there
are some restrictions, said
Stephanie Robinson of the
museum.
For starters, the obvious:
No alcohol allowed. Also, no
coolers are allowed, she said
and no pets other than see
ing-eye dogs.

dream along, he said. Steed
worked for the adoption of
the SPLOST, and McGlamry
owned the property on which
the library will be built.
“The joint effort between
government and the commu
nity made this happen,” said
State Sen. Ross Tolleson.
He spoke about the impor
tance of libraries for not just
young people, but for the
entire community.
Perdue said the new library
is a great example of the
community coming together
for the betterment of all.
“Libraries are a bastion of
democracy that proclaim the
tenets of our Declaration of
Independence,” said Perdue.
The ceremony ended with
him alongside state, coun
