Glaucoma Has No Symptoms. I
Optometry When Was Your Last Eye Examination?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that leads to blindness
if it is not diagnosed and treated. The diagnosis can
only be made with a thorough eye examination. The
pressure inside of the eye is measured, and the eyes
are dilated so that the optic nerve can be examined
in great detail. The optic nerve is where glaucoma
causes it's damage.
Glaucoma occurs most frequently in patients over
the age of 40, although it can affect those in all age
brackets, including infants. There seems to be a he
reditary component to the disease. African Ameri
cans have a higher incidence of glaucoma and are
more likely to have a more severe form of the disease
than the Caucasian population. Other risk factors for
glaucoma include diabetes, high blood pressure, and
nearsightedness. It is estimated that over 2 million
Americans have glaucoma. As our population gets
older that number is expected to increase.
The optic nerve carries the visual signal from the
eye to the brain. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve
over a period of time, most of the time so slowly that
there are no warning signs of the vision loss. If left
untreated, glaucoma attacks the peripheral vision '
first, and then progresses to central vision loss, and
eventual blindness. Early detection and treatment can
often control the disease process and prevent further
vision loss_

other problems like intestinal bleeding. I believe
the DRX 9000 is the "missing link" in low back
treatment that will help these people who have
not been helped by surgery, drugs, shots, or stan
dard chiropractic care.
The initial program of intensive care consists
of 20 visits in a 6-week period. During the first
two weeks, you will be seen daily or until your
pain is at least 50% improved. After the decom
pression treatment that last 30 minutes, you will
also be given therapy to decrease inflammation
and soreness. You will also be shown how to
strengthen your back muscles and to increase
your mobility.
Without hesitation I can say the DRX 9000 is
the best treatment for this epidemic of low back
pain, and when combined with our spinal rehab
program, your improvement is assured, in fact, if
you don't feel at least 50% better in 2 to 4 weeks,
we'll refer you to another doctor for a surgical
some reason, the channel that allows the
eye fluid to drain becomes clogged, and
the fluid pressure builds up in the eye.
That creates a high pressure that damages
the optic nerve. The goal of treatment is
to lower the pressure inside of the eye to
prevent damage to the optic nerve.
Treatment for glaucoma most often is
prescription eye drops, but in some cases
laser therapy or surgery is the treatment
of choice.
Early detection is the key in preventing blindness
related to glaucoma. Be sure to have yearly eye ex
aminations. These examinations must include eye di
lation and eye pressure checks, as well as peripheral
vision testing. Call Thompson Eye Clinic to schedule
| DID YOU KNOW?
(MS) - While most adults are aware that they need to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, children
actually need twice that amount, according to dietary guidelines from the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Children should get 60 minutes of
moderate to vigorous exercise every day. While that might seem like a lot, when considering that kids are
exposed to exercise during gym class, recess and after school activities each day, it's actually quite easy for
children to get 60 minutes of exercise daily. It's also nothing compared to the amount of time children spend
doing far less healthy activities. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reports that the average child
spends three hours a day watching television, while the Kaiser Family Foundation reports kids are spending
an average of 51/2 hours per day involved in all media, including television, computers, etc. While that's
an alarming statistic, it pointsout how easy it could be to get kids more involved in exercise. If time spent
in front of the television and surfing the Internet is simply decreased by less than 20 percent, time now be
comes available for physical activity - and that's all the time kids need.
