HOBNOB
From page iA
for Superior Court judge
were there as were Toby Hill
and Fred Wilson, candidates
for the Board of Education.
Doug Everett, candidate for
Public Service Commissioner
was there and Legislative
candidates Tony Sellier
(State House District 136),
Ross Tolleson (State Senate
District 20) and Larry O’Neal
(District 146).
Obama and McCain were
also represented - the fiery
Charles Byrd, an attorney
in Middle Georgia who has
offices throughout the area
(including Perry) in the case
of the first.
There were also pop quiz
questions thrown out to the
audience throughout the
program, each right answer
worth a prize and lots of
prizes given out in the end.
There was music. There
was food. There was fellow
ship - several Warner Robins
City Councilmen were also
noted in attendance as well
as Acting Warner Robins
Mayor Clifford Holmes Jr.,
County Commissioner Gail
Robinson, etc - and there
was fun.
“Our goal was really to cre
ate a friendly outdoor atmo
sphere,” Hudnall said, “but
(we) wanted to create it like
a fair, where you can bring
kids and win prizes ... a fam
ily-friendly event.”
“I think for the most part,
in every category it was a
success. I mean there are
things we will do different
the next time (she antici
pated it would be a bi-annual
event to coincide with elec
tions) like have (sample) bal
lots (so people could com
pare which candidate was
matched against which, what
district, et cetera). But it’s
a ‘live and learn’, ‘trial and
error’. Hopefully people in
the community appreciated
the enormity of it. This is not
you decide to do overnight.”
In fact, planning began
in July, she said. The big
gest degree of difficulty, she
added, was getting the candi
dates themselves to confirm.
“You have to ask them way
in advance,” she said, adding
another sponsor, Cox, real
ly “stepped up” during the
planning stages, “but based
on their schedules, they can’t
confirm until the last min
ute.”
“We are as a chamber,”
she added, “becoming more
aware as we grow. The cham
ber is here for business but
really we’re not just for bus.
“Because people move
into Warner Robins and
ask, ‘Where can I get my car
worked on,’ things like that.
We are more of a community
sort of resource and that I
think is what this event is
truly about.”
In case you missed it, the
Hob Nob will be re-shown
on Cox Channel 15 Monday
through Nov. 3, that Monday-
Friday at noon and 5:30
p.m. and that Saturday and
Sunday at 9 a.m.
