Houston County schools observed Red Ribbon Week in October. Pictured are students
taking part in a Red Ribbon Week activity at Northside Elementary. Students were given
a cup to place in the fence to spell out “Elect to be Drug Free.” Principal Jodi Clark
commented, u O\rer 100 red, white and blue cups were used to send our message of
being drug free.”

The Houston County High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America
chapter participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk held recently at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds. The chapter received the Top School/Youth Fundraising
Award for their contributions. Members Sarah Hartley, Brooke Brinson, Samantha
Alheit, Jill Myrick, Averi Hess and Laurie Beth Nix also had the opportunity to talk with
Gov. Sonny Perdue.

Lindsey Elementary students who made Honor Roll with all As the first nine weeks of
school were treated to a special luncheon recently. Parents were invited to enjoy an
awards luncheon with thpir children in the media center. The meal included a cake
decorated in their honor. Each child was recognized by Principal Anthony Lunceford.
Board member Skip Dawkins and the Director of Community and School Affairs, Beth
McLaughlin, also attended the event. These highest-performing students were given
a medal, certificate, pencil and several free meals from local businesses. Pictured are,
