Live Solid. Bank Solid:
Hospital Mority reorganizes
By CHARLOTTE
PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
On Jan 1, 2009, there’ll
be a big change in the way
the Houston County hos
pital and healthcare sys
tem operates. Caregivers
and patients aren’t likely
to notice any difference for
quite a while because it’s
change “from the top,” but
county and healthcare lead
ers believe that in the long
run it will mean that both
Houston Countians and
people from the surround
ing Middle Georgia area
will have more healthcare
options close to home.
After more than a year
of discussion and planning,
the vote on Monday night’s
Houston County Health
Care Authority was essen
tially to reorganize as a
not-for-profit 501 C corpo
ration.
Sonny Watson, current
chairman oft the Hospital
Authority, who will move
into the position of chair
man of the newly-named
Houston Healthcare
Systems board, explains it
in simple terms.
“There’ll be a ‘big
board’,” he said in an inter
view Tuesday. “Houston
