2:30 p.m. and Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.

Wind is a fictionalized account
of the 1925 Scopes “Monkey”
Trial, which resulted in John T.
Scopes' conviction for teaching
Charles Darwin’s theory of evo
lution to a high school science
class, contrary to a Tennessee
state law that prohibited the
teaching of anything besides
creationism. The fictional char
acters Matthew Harrison Brady,
Henry Drummond, Bertram
Cates and E. K. Hornbeck cor
respond to the historical fig
ures of William Jennings Bryan,
Clarence Darrow, John Scopes,
and H. L. Mencken, respec
tively.
■ SK, FUN RUN - The
Cantrell Center for Physical
Therapy and Sports Medicine is
beginning a community health
program entitled “Get Moving
Middle Georgia”. To kick it off,
they will be having a 5K and
Fun Run. It is slated for Feb.
28, 2009. Beginning at their 405
Osigian Blvd., Warner Robins
address, the 5K and Fun Run is
S2O for the first and sls for the
second, if pre-registered. It’s
also sls for students to com
pete/participate in the 5K (also
pre-registered). Pre-registering,
according to the release, also
entitles you to an "exclusive
training program". The cost on
the day of the race for the 5K
is $25. Awards include SSOO
for first place, male and female
and $250 for second, male
and female. Registration forms
and additional information are

■ COMMUNITY GALA
- The New Smyrna Baptist
Church invites the community
to attend a community gala
to introduce their new pastor,
Reverend Stanley Kimble. The
semiformal event is planned
for Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m., at the
Holiday Inn, Watson Boulevard.
■ NS ENCORE
PERFORMANCE - Northside
High School will present
an encore performance of
their award-winning produc
tion of “Once on this Island”
Jan. 11, 2009, at 3 p.m. in
the Ray Horne Theatre at
Northside. This is their annual
canned food benefit. Admission
is five canned goods or $5 at
the door. All proceeds go to the
local food bank. Northside won it
14th State 1 -Act title Nov. 15, at
the Clayton County Performing
Arts Center with “Once on this
Island.” This year's win made
GHSA history, with Northside
being the first Georgia school
to win the State title for three
consecutive years.
■ WALK THROUGH
BETHLEHEM - will be held at
Shirley Hills Baptist Church, 615
Corder Road in Warner Robins,
Dec. 19-21. Times: Doors open
at 3 p.m., and tours begin as
soon as possible, no later than
4 p.m/The parking lot closes
at 10 p.m., but anyone already
registered will see the event.
Walk Through Bethlehem is an
interactive drama that recreates
what Bethlehem might have
been like the night of the first
Christmas. This is a free event.

oratorio, The Messiah, will be
presented by the Ocmulgee
Symphony Orchestra and
the OSO Community Choir in
Hawkinsville Dec. 20. The per
formance will be at 7:30 p.m. in
the Hawkinsville Opera House,

little boys and girls to find out

OBITUARIES "Always remembered"
Jack Randall llsry
WARNER ROBINS - Mr. Jack Randall Usry, 68, passed away at
his residence on Saturday, December 13, 2008. Funeral services
were held Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in the Chapel of Heritage
Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed at Parkway Memorial
Gardens.
Mr. Usry was preceded in death by his son, John Usry, also his
parents and a brother and two sisters. He was a self-employed
contractor and of the protestant faith. Survivors include his wife;
Anne Usry of Warner Robins; daughters; Kathy (Rory) Mclemore,
Gainesville, Georgia; Michelle Campbell, Perry, Georgia; Brother;
Glenn (Joy) Usry, Georgetown, Georgia; sisters; Linda Feduccia and
Marie Weicht, both of Zephyrhills, Florida; Margie (Wayne) Dunson,
Salem, Alabama.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchil
dren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made
to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins,
GA 31088 or St Jude’s Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas
Place, Memphis, TN, 38122. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and
Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
