Killing Of Kentucky Boy

—Pranks of students in the chemi
cal laboratory of the Pikeville High
School Wednesday had a tragie end
ing today in the death gf Bryant
Cerbin, 18 years old, star of. the],
football team, and the arrest of
Clyde Farley, 19, on a charge of
murder. b
According to fellow students, am

periment and one boy saturated a
rag with it and threw it into thefa
room. It was said Corbin picked up]
the rag and brushed it against Far-:
ley’s shoulder. The latter resented|]
the act and later in a fight in tlle%'
school yard Corbin was stabbed. Far
ley was released under bond but wasl;
rearrested after Corbin died. l

negro, went to and fro with a six
inch knifc blade under his left cheek
without knowing anything about it. !
“Just a little altercation between
friends,” said John when they ask

skin in front of his right ear.
When Hines tried to take electrice
al treatments the blade was an espe
cially embarrassing nuisance and
finally he went to a doctor, who dis
covered it and took it out.

vices for Johnnie P. Hancock, aged
25, of Brooks county, were held at
the Brusy Creek cemetery in the
county Wednesday afternoon at 4
o’clock. Mr, Hancock wa sa vietim of
a mad dog, he having been bitten a
little over three weeks previous to
his death, having met the dog in the
‘road near his home at night. He be
gan taking the Pasteur treatment the
next day after he was bitten, it is
understood, but he continued to
grow weak although he was able to
be up just a day or two before his
death. However, he was not afftected
as most victims of hydrophobia ‘and
his death was peaceful.
He had only one convulsion which
rassed away and he died rational
:nd without apparent pain. He had
tnken treatment 21 days. His death
from hydrophobia after having taken!
the treatment preseribed promptly
and the fact that he had practicallyl
none of the symptoms of those whnl
die from the bite of-a mad dog, is
considered unusual and without pre-

To Be Hanged Today

CHICAGO, A pril 16—Raymond
Costello and Charles Hobbs, a negro,
stranglers of women, were placed in
the death cell in the Cook county
jail today preliminary to their exe--
cution tomorrow.
Costello will be hanged for the
slaying of Madeline White.
Hobbs strangled his landlady,
Mrs. Betty Barnett, negress, and
robbed her of 75 cents.
Montezuma Mill Is ‘
Running Full Time}
MONTEZUMA, Ga.. April 16—
Montezuma Knitting mills are run--
ning on full time, according to R.
C. Collier, superitnedent. The plant
ha srecently been enlarged a nd a
dyeing machine installed.
The capacity of.the mills which put
out men’s union suits in white, ran
dom, gray and ecru, is 1,000 dozen
garments a week, and the output for
the year is said, the management

he is survived by them, his wife, who
. was Miss Lilie Exum, and five small
i children, the only being about
seven years of age, four brothers

ly thought of and his almost tragic
~death has caused much sorrow
among a wide circle of friends of
the family.
