AND SUFFERS DEFEAT AT THE
HANDS OF THE UNIVERSITY.
Good Playing by Both Sides, but
Emory Yields the Cham-
pionspip to the
Athens Boys.
A representative crowd of Athens
I belles and beaux witnessed our boys
j take their third game from Emory,
and the enthusiasm shown by the
girls was almost equal to the ex-
| citement manifested by the student
[ body.
“Play” was called at 4:40 p. in.,
and, with one exception, the game
progressed smoothly from start to
finish.
Capt. Halsey chose the “bat,” and
the Methodist boys went out in
good shape.
Save for the rally, or rather “land
slide” in the eighth, the game was
uninteresting. The visitors had
some good individual players, but
1 lacked team work, and were lamen
tably weak on the coaching lines.
Saussy at third and Hall at first,
showed up well, taking all chances,
| while Means and Griffin held up
well in the class of heavy-weights.
Umpire lluice from Oxford, gave
satisfaction, with a few exceptions,
i and we believe that in time, with
sufficient training, he will develope
into a fairly good judge of the
| R*me.
Manager Hall expressed himself
as much pleased with the treatment
shown his men, ami left with happy
recollections of a pleasant defeat.
I he visitors'were made welcome
at the Junior hop, and those who
attended of course had an immensely
! enjoyable time.
We have met the Oxford hoys
! three times, and on each occasion
red and black has triumphed over
purple and white.
The playing of our men requires
no comment, as without exception,
it was up to the standard of Goon
Hall.
