SALUTATORY.
It is lull right tlim, in taking
charge of Tiik Red and Black, the
now management imiko n few nn-
nouneeinent* in regard to tliofuturo
of llie paper. Elsewhere in tliin
if.lie will lie foninl the names of the
Kilitor in-C’liief, Business Manager,
Isicul, Sporting and Associate Kdi
tors frr the ensuing term. A few
mem hern of the old staff resigned,
hut their plaess have been filled by
good men and the new staff hopes
to make the future issues of The
Red aku Black a. bright and an
newsy as the past issues have been.
We want every student to feel
that he has an interest in this pa
per. Its columns are open for ex
pression of opinion from all the
hoys. If you know of anything that
will benefit the l uiversity tell it
through the columns of The Bun
ani> Black, sml if you know any
personal items that will interest
'Varsity men tell these items to
some one of our Editors. Our col
umns are open to the members of
the Faculty also. Official announce
ments will lie published with plea
sure and articles on current topics,
from members of the Faculty, will
be appreciated. The University of
Georgia is not large enough to sup
port a daily, hut there is no reason
why The Uki> and Black should
not be the best college weekly in
the South.
The |H>licy of The Red and Black
in regard to Athletics and College
Politics is well known. The firmer
we believe in and shall support, the
latter we do not believe in and
shall oppose. The record of the
Varsity team "on the gridiron dur- j
mg the past season was an excellent
one, but let’s go still higher. The
efforts which our college has made
to purify athletics in the South has
given her a prominent place among
Southern colleges and every ’Var
sity man should do all he eau. to. up
hold the University's fair name.
The “'Varsity’’ baseball team for
!t.» should be one of the best to go
on a Southern diamond and will be
if rightly captained and managed.
A few words in regard to sub
scriptions. Every student in the
University should subscribe for Tiik
Red and Black and should pay his
subscription too. If you are not a
subscriber become one as soon as
possible, and if you are a subscriber
and havn’t paid your subscription
pay it, at once, to one of the Editors.
It takes money to run the paper and
we can't run it without money from
subscribers, although the Athens
merchants have been very liberal
in giving us advertisements. The
price of the paper for the spring
term is 75 cents.
Remember that your college is
judged, to a great extent^ by your
college paper. The Editors eould
till up the columns, but it is the in
terest of every student to Bee that
its columns are filled with interest
mg reading matter. Tht; Editors
have recitations to get up and can t
pul all their time on the paper.!
Your help will be app'eciated.
The Red and Black wishes to
every student a pleasant and pros- |
perous term. Let’s make '95 a ban
ner year for the University of Ga.
Our new staff is composed of the
following :
Frank f. Keen, Edilor-in-Cliief.
Harry B. Floyd, Business Manager.
Frank 1.. Fleming, Local Editor.
I» J. Ilofmayer, Sporting Editor.
Associate Editors.—C. II. Holden,
Geo, W.Collier, Fred Morris, W. li.
Jones, OitT Walker, Associate Edi
tors.
The present msnagcmeul would
like to assure the readers of the
Rki> and Black that on every Sat
urday they can expect an issue filled t
with college news and college arti
cles.
The Orange and Blue, of Auburn
is still telling its rca.lers why they
lost the Auburn-Athens game, and
substantiates their remarks by quo
ting from the “Looking Glass.’’ We
will say this much in reply, The
Red and Black is satisfied that
Athens won the game, and “that’s
good enough for us.’’
An exchange says that in I»rus

sian schools it is no uncommon oc
currence for a failuie in examina
tion to be followed by a suicide—
something over three hundred hav
ing occurred in the last few years.
Suppose, for a moment, such a stile
of affairs existed with us, how many
suicides would the Red and Black
have to chronicle?
The most notable articles in the
Orange and Blue, of Auburn, are
replies to articles in other papers
relative to their unfortunate foot
ball season. It seems as though it
is rather bard for the boys to get
over their defeat. While all this is
going on, the college world looks
on with much amusement.
