THE CORNELL GAMES. TOWN HOYS WIN
First Inter-Collegiate Games of the 'Varsity Beaten in the Opening Game
H. C JOHNSON.
*
Season to be Played With the Ith
acans next Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday.
On next Thursday, Friday
and Saturday we play the first
inter-collegiate games of the
season with Cornell. The lirst
game will he played on the cam
pus, and the other two in At
lanta. Those games are looked
forward to with it great deal of
interest, both on account of
their being the first inter-col
legiate games,and on account
of the reputation which Cor
nell has in athletics.
The (ieorgia team has shown
up very poorly so far, hut there
is plenty of good material on
hand for a strong ball team,
and there is no reason why we
cannot give Cornell a hard
struggle. By 1iard work on
Monday, Tuesday and Wednes
day, tile team should be in
splendid condition for the lirst
game.
Cornell has not given out the
line-up of her team yet, but
(ieorgia will probably play thr
following men . Kounsaville or
Allen, catcher ; Cox, Kidloy or
Lamar, pitcher ; Beaver or Hull.
1st b; Hall, 2b.; McBride ss.;
Whitfield or F. Kidloy, db. ;
Baxter If. ; Carev, of. ; and Mc-
Calla, rf. The substitutes will
lie picked from the following:
Blackshear, Dean, Dorsey.
As the (ieorgia team will be
composed almost entirely of now
and inexperienced men, they
will probably feel a little ner
vous in their lirst game, espe
cially as it is against such a
strong team ; but if the rest of
the student-body will g^t to*
gether and support the team in
good old (Ieorgia fashion, Cor
nell will Hnd it very hard to de
feat us.
ATHENS AUAIN.
of the Season by Score of 13 to 9.
Though the weather was cold
and the day disagreeable a good
crowd witnessed the opening
game of the season last Satur
day afternoon. Allowances be
ing made for the cold and the
little practice which the ’Var
sity men have received, (hey
played a good game of ball.
Cornell will make no such al
lowances, however,and the team
needs all the practice possible
between now and the Cornell
games.
Cox was in the box for the
lirst six innings, lie pitched
good hall the lirst part of the
game,but he weakened after the
third inning, anti In* was baited
freely. Hall pitched for’Varsi
ty after 7th inning, and his work
was excellent lie yielded not
it single run. Beaver and Hire
on first and short stop showed
up well. Fred Beusso, Carl
Save a nil .lack Burnett were the
stars of the town aggregation.
Tin' Buesse bnvs, Morton, and
Barry made some good hits,
,. Tb** town ls>vs hove aline r.g-
gregation of ball players, and
the ’Varsity team should avail
themselves of every opportunity
to practice with them.
