First Basketball
Scrimmage Held
By Varsity Squad
The first basketball scrimmage of
the year was held by the varsity
squad at its practice Tuesday on the
Woodruff hall floor. Under the di
rection of Captain Florence, the
team has been working out four
times each week since November 1,
and Coach Stegeman decided that the
quintet had progressed rapidly
enough for the first scrimmage. An
other was held Wednesday.
Captain Florence, Keen, and Har
ris, letter-men of last year, together
with Dudley Cook, Jesse Drew, Hoke
Hill. Hancock, and Murdock have
been pluylng the forward positions.
At center. Roy Drew, Florence,
and Harris, letter-men, have been
alternating. Williams and Blumen-
thal have been in this position also.
Fight candidates for the guar)
positions Include Dudley Cook, An
derson, Courts, Renson, Hart, Mil-
ton Palmer, Kline, and Steele.
It Is expected that eight members
of the Bulldog football squad will
Join the above candidates as soon as
the Tech game is completed. These
are: Morris, letter-man of last sea
son, Lautzenhiser, Davidson, Martin,
Henry Palmer, Harvey Hill, Dudlev,
and "Buster” Cook.
The tlrst game will probably be
played In Athens, December 10, ac
cording to Coach Stegeman.
(By Sain Hirscli)
Compulsory chapel will not be
necessary for the gay dogs of the
Georgia campus. Voluntarily they
attend, even when not expected.
And even when not drunk or other
wise out of their senses.
Tuesday an absent sophomore was
marked present. Not because he Is
bigger than the monitor, either. But
because his seat was occupied by one
of these gay dogs, Boots, a well-
known dogabout-town.
Boots sat quietly through the en
tire service, making no protest even
at the prayer, and seemed Interested
in the proceedings, though he took
no notes. His presence lent an air
of intelligence hitherto unknown at
any chapel attendance, and served to
wake up the sleeping sophomores.
The student who takes the roll
now has Boots dogging his footsteps,
thereby Increasing chapel attendance,
which, with large numbers of Latin
students present, now takes on all
the attractions of a dog and pony
show.
