Track Team Will Open Home Schedule
With Presbyterian Cindermen Saturday

New Tennis Tournament

Team in Second Meet
The University track team will
meet Presbyterian college, Clinton,
S. C., on the University track Satur
day afternoon In I ho aecond meet
of the season. Georgia defeated
Clemson 92 to 3 4 In the first meet
of the season.
Graham Batchelor, field man, will
be tin 1 mainstay of Coach H. J. Stego-
man, athletic director. In the meet
with Presbyterian. Batchelor took
four first places In tho meet against
Clemson to score 20 points for the
Bulldogs.
Saturday's meet will be the first
tlmo that tho cinder track artists
have appeared before the University
student body this seuson, and many
spectators nre expected to follow tho
events.

bly take part In the meet are:

last year nnd won four of them. Tho
only meet lost was to Auburn, which
took first at tho A. A. U. meet with
Georgia tnklng 31 points for second
placo.
The Georgia team appears to be
ns strong this season as last nnd
from all advance indications should
put In n strong bid for first plnce
at the A. A. U. meet.
The freshmun track team under
Assistant Coach Weems Baskin Is In
need of candidates for Hold nnd
weight men. All freshmen that think
they are qualified for these positions
are urged to come out for the team,
according to Coach H. J. Stegoman.

The Inter-frutornity basketball
tournament seems to have dropped
out and Is yielding to tho Indoor
baseball crane. None of the frater
nity men know when they are sup
posed to play or who they are sup
posed to play when that time ar
rives.
The Pan-Hellenic council, sponsor
of the tourney, also has lost Interest
In the event.
The annual Michael Cup tennis
tournament begins April 10 on the
Physical education building courts.
All registered women students are
eligible.
During the last five years the tour
nament has been won by Athens
girls, Chi Omega, and Soule hall.
Since Soule hall won the cup for
three successive years, the cup has
been given them for permanent pos
session, end a new one will bo award
ed this year.
Teams will probably be entered by
Alpha Delta PI, Alpha Gamma Delta,
Alpha Sigma Phi, Alpha Theta, Ath
ens girls, Lucy Cobb, Mllledge and
Lucas halls, Phi Mu, and Soule hall
which must have two teams.

Taking both games of a two-game
polo series, tho University of Geor- j
gia polo team trounced the Florida
university riders Saturday and Mon
day to take the lead In the South- |
eastern conference with four wins
and no losses. Saturday the Bull- j
dogs won 6 to 2 and Monday they !
came back strong to win 7 to 3.
Ed Downs, number two man, and !
Bill Wooten, number three man,
were the outstanding players for |
Georgia in both of the games.
The two games with Florida ended
the series with that Institution for
the University. A two two-game
series with Auburn at Auburn and
in Athens In April and May will end
the season for the Bulldog riders.
Captain H. O. Holt, coach of the
team, stuted that chances that the
Georgia four would finish the inter
collegiate polo season without a de
feat were bright. Georgia's only loss
In polo this season has been to a
private team from Augusta.

Taking four first places and scor
ing 20 points, Graham Batchelor,
star field man, led the Georgia Bull
dogs to a 92-34 victory over the
Clemson college truck team Saturday
afternoon at Clemson, S. C., In Geor
gia's first meet of the season.
Batchelor won first place In the
Javelin throw, shot put, discus, and
broad Jump. Georgia opened up by
tnklng the mile run, the first event
of the card, and was never headed.
Out of the 14 events scheduled Geor
gia took 12 first places to Clemson's
two.
Gordon Lynn, Clemson sprinter,
ran the 220-yard dash in 21.3 sec
onds. which Is one second less than
the state dash rocord. He equaled
the state record In the 100-yard with
a 9.8 seconds run.

Lacrossemen to Give
First Exhibition Tilt
The first public lacrosse game this
season will bo staged by Capt. E. W.
Godbold’s lacrosse team "Saturday
afternoon Immediately following the
traek meet on Sanford field. TJie
scrimmage will feature two crark
teams made up of players from the
varsity squad with a few freshmen
of exceptional ability.
Captain Jimmy Moncrlef may be
kept out of the game due to an
injured knee received In a re
cent scrimmage. Co-captain Rich
ard "Rip” Calloway will be in the
game on one of the teamB.
One of the teams will be dressed
in red jerseys the other in black.
The game will be plenty rough and
realistic and will afford the spec
tators plenty of thrills.
Intercollegiate competition in la
crosse was stopped this year due to
the cutting of the athletic budget by
the Athletic association. However,
the lacrossemen, under the able
coaching of Captain Godbold, will
play several games among them
selves during the season.
The Blue Key council indoor base
ball league is progressing with four
games In the Stegeman league played
and the announcement of the sche
dules for the Sanford league made.
Student Interest In the league and
indoor baseball Is at a high peak and
fast competition among the teams
is resulting.
The playing time for the Sanford
league is five o’clock with the play
ing time for the Stegeman league
set at four o’clock. All of the games
are being played on Herty field.

A three year course of instruction is offered,
quarter plan, leading to the degree of Doctor of Den
tal Surgery, The course is recognized as class A by
the University of the State of New York and the
Dental Educational Council of America.
