f X’ Club Hoop Leaders Upset;
Candler Hall, ALT Pace Play
Led by lanky, chesty Bill Walters,
our genial Coach Jones seems defi
nitely to possess something there in
his swimming team .... if a couple
of lads down Gainesville, Fla., way
would only get seasick, or the ’Ga
tors would hie themselves to another
conference or something. Georgia
might well have a championship
team .... even as it is. Walters’
time of 54 seconds fiat in the cen
tury dash, made against Kentucky
last week, will be tres hard to beat.
The Techs and our own Bullpups
stubbed their collective toes last
week in a big way . . . . L. S. U.
trimmed the gangling engineers, only
to lose to Alabama a few days later
.... and Alabama with a win col
umn of nice round zeros .... tsk,
tsk .... We hate to say this, but
in the case of the Bullpups at least,
the cause of the downfall seems to
be plain cockiness .... Coach Hol
lis' team has had swell publicity all
over the South, and it really is a
very good team .... but not in
vincible by a long shot .... and
athletes are still made in the game
and not on the sports page ....

trniiiurul Conflict*
On Monday, Old College and
Lambda Chi engaged in a game that
was thought would determine the
championship of the “X” Club
circuit. In the fray, a fine exhibition
of defensive prowess on both teams’
part, Lambda Chi eked out an 18 to
15 win to become the favorite to cop
the league crown. However, on Tues
day. Lambda Chi went down to de
feat at the hands of the up-and-
coming. Joe Brown quintet. 14 to 13.
thus throwing the league race in a
muddle once more.
The third development occurred
when the supposedly strong Old Col
lege team suffered its second suc
cessive loss in losing to Pi Kappa
Phi, 14 to 12. Joe Brown entered
the win column again during the
week by swamping Phi Epsilon Pi.
38 to 4 with Frank “Breezy" Wynne
setting the pace with 12 points. New
Boys' Dormitory lost two games dur
ing the week, to K. A. 28 to 20.
and to Phi Kappa Phi, 22 to 19.
In the Sanford League, Candler
Hall remained supreme with two
wins during the week to remain un
defeated. The “Barons" topped
Sigma Nu, 33 to 12, in a make up
game Monday and took a forfeit
from Chi Phi Tuesday. A. E. Pi
remained in the championship run
ning by taking a close decision from
the ‘‘Shysters’’ of Milledge Hall, 11
to 10. Another Sanford result was
tlie overwhelming victory of Sigma
Chi over Sigma Nu, 23 to 9.
A. L. T., the leading team in the
Blue Key circuit, kept its record
clean by downing Pi K. A. 19 to 17.
JefT Cain, probably the most consist
ent high-point man in intramural
competition, led the A. L. T. scoring
with 8 points. Phi Delta Theta,
closely following the A. L. T. five,
won over the strong Forestry Club
team. 27 to 18. Setting a dizzy pace
in the last half. A. T. O. romped
over Tau Epsilon Phi, 27 to 19. to
remain in the running for the loop
diadem.
Be Accurate or Broke
“A nickel a miss” is the penalty
the Georgia rifle squad received for
its 13 misses against Alabama last
week. Sgt. J. P. Holloman admin
istered this fine for each miss in an
atompt to remedy the inaccuracy of
the squad, and is meeting with re
sults already.
Georgia's ranking fighter in the light-heavy division. Hob "Red" Sal
isbury, out with a severe cold for the past two weeks, who is set to go
against South Carolina tomorrow night in Columbia.

As Bulldog Boxers
Thinking out loud .... the A. L.
T.’s and their unbelievable basket
ball team .... who’da thunk it ... .
they seem unbeatable .... a bunch
of Rip Van Winkles or something
. . . . About the terrific pressure good
high school football players are sub
jected to ... . and the funny things
that happen as a result of it ... .
ask Shapiro, one of next year’s var
sity guard candidates .... or Greene,
Lanier High fullback, when he gets
here next fall .... we know of some
high school seniors who tare on-
rolled in college already .... won
der if they are guarded against
strange men .
Ranked second only to Florida ’
in the Southeastern Conference,
Georgia's powerful swimming
team meets Emory in Atlanta to
day.
Undoubtedly Georgia’s strong
est tank squad in history, the
Bulldogs crushed both Kentucky
and Presbyterian last week, and
are expected to overwhelm
Emory.
Bulldog Five Faces
Undefeated Auburn
Fresh from a 46 to 22 win over
Sewanee Wednesday night, Georgia's
cage team -will meet the undefeated
Auburn Plainsmen at Auburn, Ala.,
Saturday night, and then move on to
Tuscaloosa for a single game with
'Bama’s Crimson Tide Monday.
Work for Carolina
With battling Bob Salisbury back
in shape, the scrappy Bulldog box
ing team went through a light work
out today in final preparation for
Saturday’s bouts against South Car
olina in Columbia.
The match promises to be a bloody-
one as the teams are evenly matched,
judging from their respective show
ings against Clemson. The Tigers
defeated the Gamecocks 4V4 to 3Vfc,
and down Georgia 5V6 to 3 V4 be
cause of a forfeit in the light heavy
weight division—Salisbury being in
jured.
South Carolina is given the edge
on this match, however, due to the
tact that heavyweight captain "Red"
Milton and welterweight Rex Saf-
fold will be kept from the ring by in
juries. It was learned that both
would be able to participate in the
coming Florida match, however.
The Bulldogs showed good form
in defeating the Tigers Wednesday. |
With Alex McCaskill and Cecil Kelly, j
the two sophomore forwards leading
the attack with 12 and 9 points, re
spectively. Coach Frank Johnson |
used every man on the squad in this j
game.
Over at Auburn, the Plainsmen |
are being bailed as the best basket
ball team the school has seen in
many years. Through Wednesday
they were undefeated and co-leaders I
in the Southeastern Conference race. J
On the other hand, the Bulldogs j
will be determined to break Au
burn’s winning streak, and if com- 1
parative scores mean anything, they I
may stand a good chance. The
Plainsmen were hard pressed last
Monday and Tuesday nights to take
a pair of games from Sewanee. while |
Georgia had little trouble with the
Tigers in Wednesday’s tilt.
Alabama, after being kicked around
all season, finally hit their stride
during the past week, and took two
hard fought battles from L. S. U..
conquerors of Tech’s favored Jack
ets. On the basis of these scores, the
Tide will be slight favorites against
Georgia
