Selected European
Seminar Lecturer
Grant M. Hyde, University of Wis
consin Journalism director, will give
special lectures on foreign news and
on the European press this summer
in connection with a second travel
seminar as a new member of the
Grady faculty.
Students taking the seminar course
will again visit European news cen
ters and will have the cooperation of
preHS services here and abroad as
well as information ministries of for
eign governments.
Ab a part of the course, which will
again he under the direction of Prof,
Willett Main Kempton of the Grady
staff, they will attend the interna
tional journalistic conference at
Geneva.
Mr. Hydq is author of widely used
texts in journalism Including “News
paper Reporting and Correspond
ence.” "Newspaper Editing,” “Hand
book for Newspaper Workers,” “A
Course in Journalistic Writing," and
' Journalistic Writing."
University Christian Council will

Freshman Forestry Tests
Are Scheduled For Feb. 26
Tests for the Freshman Forestry
Award will be held Saturday, Feb.
26.
The winner will be awarded $10
at the annual Forestry Banquet, in
addition to having his name inscribed
on a plaque located in the Forestry
Building.
Freshman forestry students desir
ing to compete for this award may
obtain details at the forestry school.
Administralutn Will Remedy
Defective Lighting Fixtures
Through the use of au "electric
eye” light meter, faulty lighting con
ditions in various buildings on the
campus have been discovered and are
now being remedied by the adminis
tration.
The meter determines the amount
of light received in all parts of a I
room, and a chart indicates whether I
or not the quantity is sufficient.
Improved lixtures will be installed
in Terrell Hull next week, and con
ditions in Joe Brown Hall have been
improved by changing the color of
the walls from a light green to white.
Larger lamps, producing three times
uh much Illumination as those for
merly used, have been installed in the
Commerce-Journalism Building, and
lights in the Luw School library have
been equalized and Improved.
Phi Kappa Debates
Sterilization Issue
Preparatory to a written debate
with Demosthenian in the Georgia
Arch, Phi Kappans will hold an in
formal debate Wednesday night on
the issue: Resolved: That a national
movement for the sterilization of so
cial delinquents would be beneficial
to the United States.
The purpose of the preliminary de
bate is to develop an argument for
the negative, which is to be the stand
of Phi Kappa.
Don Wilder, Savannah, and Frank
Corry, Tifton, have been chosen to
uphold the affirmative, and James
Hacke, Athens, and Walter Fulmer,
Savannah, the negative.

Talk Before Forestry Club
W. H. Fischer, supervisor of the
Chattahoochee National Forest,
Gainesville; A. A. Grumbine, tim
ber management assistant, and T. S.
Seely, game management assistant,
addressed members of the Forestry
Club at a meeting Tuesday night in
Conner Hal).
Mr. Fischer spoke on the National
Forestry Administration; Mr. Grum
bine discussed timber management,
and Mr. Seely told of the importance
of fish and game management.
Army Surgeon to Address
Sophomore Class Assembly
Dr. S. Ross Brown, U. S. Army
surgeon, will address members of the
sophomore class in the Chapel at the
regular sophomore assembly period
next Thursday morning. He will
talk on venereal diseases.
The talk by the surgeon is ex
pected to be similar to the one he
gave before the freshman class re
cently. Dr. Brown also gave two
addresses at the University during
the 1936-37 year.
