Although Georgia will he over
whelming favorites to defeat Flor
ida in Jaekaonvilie Saturday, it
may be well to take several fac
tors Into consideration before sell
ing the 'Gators short.
First and foremoat, Florida
points for the Bulldogs eueh year,
and having knocked the Georgians
off last year, will he doing their
best to repeat against Joel Hunt's
eleven Saturday. Grid enthusiasts
from the Sunshine State would
rather win from Georgia or Geor
gia Tech than any other team on
the schedule, and Florida has a
peculiar knack of pluylng 'way
over their heads against a Georgia
learn.
Sell-out Otiktl
Pro-Florida
While Georgia will have a great
many supporters in Fairfield Sta
dium, the majority of Saturday’s
sell-out crowd will, of course, be
pro-Florida fans. This, coupled
with Hie fact lli.it Coach Hunt's
team will he playing on foreign
soil, should he another advantage
In Florida's favor.
The 'Gators are still smarting
from the 33-0 trouncing they re
ceived froa Boston College in
lleantown last Saturday, and have
high hopes of redeeming them
selves in the Jacksonville tilt.
Florida's forward wall averages
well over 200 pounds and should
give the lighter Bulldog line plenty
of trouble during the afternoon.
All this brings up the question,
"Just what Is wrong with Florida
this year?" Well, that Is a mys
tery that no one has solved us yet
despite Governor Fred I*. Cone's
"Investigation" of the Orange and
Blue football team.

to retain the small leads they had
gained.

Then along came Brady Cow
ell's unsung Stetson Hatters, who
slapped the highly-touted 'Gators
down, and defeated Cody's men for
the first time In the series between
the schools, which dates hack to
the early 1900s Since then. Mi
ami. another alleged set-up for
Florida; Mississippi State; and
Boston have kicked the 'Gators
around unmercifully. Florida has
won only two games this fall the
first a narrow victory over So-
wanee. and the second a rather top
heavy 33-0 decision over the small
er Tampa College team.
The solution to Florida's prob
lem may lie with the players
themselves. It is possible that the
men with unpronounceable names
have grown tired of the Peninsula
States sunshine and yearn for the
dark and lonely coal mines from
whence they came. Or, on the
other hand, It may be that Flor
ida funs were too enthusiastic
about their team's prospects be
fore the season opened. Another
answer to the question could be
dissension in the 'Gator ranks, and
yet another might be Old Man
Jinx on Florida's trail. At any
rate, sports fans throughout the
South will be looking towards
Gainesville for the remainder of
the season to see Just what fat the
Gators can fetch out of the tire
Here's hoping they don't resume
their winning ways against our red
clad Bulldogs Saturduy.
Lettermen in varsity sports will be
permitted to continue their activi
ties In other intramural athletics, it
was decided by an 8 to 6 vote Wed
nesday at a meeting of representa
tives of the various organizations en
tered in intramural play.
Only 14 of the intramural or
ganizations were represented at the
meeting, and no specific vote was
held that applied to The Red and
Black’s plan to abolish only varsity
football players.
However, a motion to bar all ma
jor lettermen from Intramural ac-
11vity was voted down.
circuit.
Initial varsity basketball practice
did not start this week as scheduled,
but will begin Monday night at 7
o’clock, according to Coach Elmer
Lampe. Lack of equipment is the
cause for delay.

Relentlessly a mechanical mouth at Bell Tele
phone Laboratories keeps talking... talking...
talking into this new type telephone. Other telephones
are being frozen, steamed, baked, lifted and dropped
into their cradles by machines.
Why all these laboratory tortures? Simply because
your telephone must prove it can take more nse and
abuse than it will ever get in its normal lifetime. It must
be ready to give you the best possible telephone service.
Exhaustive testing of Bell System apparatus is one
reason you can depend on your telephone aluays.
