Petticoat
Parade
By Mario Richardson
(Women’s Pan-Hellenic President)
This isn’t the Sigma Chi Derby,
but the freshmen are again on pa
rade. After six weeks of college they
are settling down to a steady pace
—some taking the lead socially, oth
ers, politically; and still others
scholastically. Each personality in
the front rank promises to be a star
On the sidelines big sisters cheer
them on, and the campus playboys
add quite a few names to their lists.
Larry Goodrich, Griffin, after time
out in the Infirmary, is making up
for lost time with a top-notch high
school record back of her. Larry’s
one of the best bets of the season
for freshman politics. Swamped in
outside activities but light enough
to float on top is Cordelia Salter, At
lanta. Though she’s only as big as
a minute, keep your eyes on her.
Off to a “flaming” start was red
headed Margaret Sims, Comer. While
we’re still watching the activity heat,
Helen Nolte, Jacksonville, Fla., of
future photog fame, forges ahead.
Isobel Shockly, in mask and make
up, courses her Way toward the
Thalian-Blackfriar stage. Marcia
Carnwill, with curly hair and dim
ples, a drawl and the gift of gab
pushes ahead through Freshman Club
and Pandora.
Jane Griffith, the Yankee with
southern ways, steps on with a ver
satile and interesting personality.
The President of Freshman Club
gains the place next to the rail—
Charlie Baldwin, outstanding, tact
ful and capable.
Florence Baxter, Ashburn, and
Henri Whitaker, Athens, started a
jump ahead with freshman debate
team and Pioneer already to their
credit
Coming up into the Phi Beta Kap
pa promises will be Martha Frances
Smith, Atlanta, and Emily Arnett,
Atlanta. Martha Frances fits in as
a stag line attraction while Emily
wins her way with sincerity and fun.
Into the social heat steps amiable
Pat Childs, of Macon, who has made
her name in Dolphin Club, Pioneer,
and Freshman Club. Pauline Me
Clanahan, Atlanta, Martha McDoug-
all, Savannah, and Barbara Holder
Thomasville, will stick right in the
front.
In the social sway of the year Mary
Alice Roane, Atlanta, keeps in prac
tice at the Tech Homecoming dances
Jessie Sutton, Decatur, isn’t going
to rate on her dancing feet only but
with A-plus personality!
Many have made their own decis
ions about Jean Creekmore, Athens,
and Betty Jane Horton, Anderson, S
C. These two have that indescribable
something that keeps them ahead in
the race with little effort on their
part.
It’s a woman’s world in a way
