gap which exists between salary
scales here and at state insti
tutions which are considered I
ahove the average throughout
the U. S. He said with the !
raise the University is approxi- |
mately 20 per cent off this |
above-average scale.
In connection with the salary ,
increase, President Aderhold I
issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the University,
1 am sincerely grateful to Gov
ernor Vandiver and the Board
of Regents for making an in-1
crease in faculty salaries pos- I
sible at the beginning of this
academic year. Each year, we
have tried to close the gap
which exists between salaries
at the University and those of
above-average state institutions
throughout the U. S.”
“This gap has remained wide
because even though our ef
forts have brought some gain
each year, other institutions
have continued to push ahead
each year also. In our efforts
to build a great University, we
must compete not with average
institutions of higher educa
tion, but the better institu
tions, both public and private.
The state and land-grant uni
versities of the Mid-West, the
private institutions of the
East—all are on the alert for
the very best in faculty mem
bers. In addition, business, in
dustry and government are in
the competition for the caliber
of men and women we seek for
our faculties.”
