gia Army KOTC Cadets attend
ed the KOTC Summer Camp at
Port Bragg. North Carolina
held June -’5 to July 24.
They were among 2,200 Ca
dets in training at the en
campment. While there the fu
ture Army officers underwent
intensive field training in the
use of maps and aerial photo
graphs in land navigation, em
ployment of weapons and lead
ing small units.
Two University officials. Dr.
Daniel J. Sorrells, dean of stu
dents, and William W. Parker,
assistant to the dean of facul
ties, were present July 15 and
16 at the invitation of the Com-1
mnnding General of the Third j
U .S. Army. Dr. Sorrells and
Mr. Williams were among rep
resentatives from 41 colleges
and universities in ten stales
and one territory.
The purpose of the visit was
for the representatives to ob
serve field leadership training.
The representatives were
given time to chat with the
cadets and eat serveral meals
with them. They observed a
field problem test, close com
bat trnining. mortar training
and watched a tank infantry
team in attack training.
Later they observed an air
borne demonstration and were
allowed to fire the .45 calibre
pistol and M-60 machine gun.

The University of Georgia will again open its football
season with University of Alabama this year. The Bull
dogs will open the season in Tuscaloosa, since the game
was played in Athens last year.
