sessions of six weeks each dur
ing summer vacations, thus
eliminating campus drills or

Time spent in summer
training sessions counts to
ward pay and promotions

On Tuesday, Jan 14 in the
Law School Auditorium a
meeting was held for mem
bers of the staff of the Dean of
Student Affairs to explain
procedures concerning the
Student Judiciary and to an
swer any questions they may
have had
Huber Parsons Jr.. Chief
Justice of the Judicial Coun
cil. conducted the meeting
along with Al Dasher. SGA
Minister to Student Affairs,
and Mike Dover. SGA Minis
ter to Men s Affairs
The Oath of Justices. Code
of Ethics and Rules of Proce
dure and the Regulations
were discussed at the meet
ing.
The Code of Ethics is an
outline of ethical standards
for justices; the obligation it
imposes on studei.t justices as
emphasized Thorough provi
sion was made for disqualifi
cation of justices because,
according to Parsons, "the
judiciary serves as a forum
and is of necessity an impar
tial forum."
The Rules of Procedure are
the operating procedures for
the hearings In a hearing the
justices' only functions are.
Dover explained, "to hear the
facts concerning a given hap
pening and determine guilt or
innocence and. if guilty, to
assign penalty."
The courts will operate on
three levels. The eight area
Residence Courts have juris
diction over those who reside
with the area and those who
commit offenses within the
buildings or on the grounds
immediately outside.
Each Main Court serves as
an appellate court to hear
appeals from the Residence
Courts and hears those cases
which may result in serious

Dr. Carla R. Waal of the
drama department is looking
students to art in a series of
one-act plays.
Ten men and ten women
are needed, and they need not
be drama majors. Dr. Waal
said

document" Parsons and his
committee had written to
guide the operation of the
Student Judiciary

entitled to was incorporated
in this document." said Par
sons in describing the meth
ods employed to preserve stu
dents' rights.
While questions were
raised which pointed out cer
tain doubtful positions, these
documents enable the Student
Judiciary to fairly balance the
interest of the student and of
the University.

The last in the violin-piano
duo series of the complete
Beethoven piano and violin
sonatas will be presented Fri
day at 8 p.m. in the Chapel
Margaret Strahl. pianist,
and Judy Berman Benedict,
violinist, will perlorm the
' Kreutzer" sonata. Opus 47 in
A major and the sonata Opus
96 in G major.
Both musicians have per
formed frequently both as
soloists and in chamber en
sembles
