Volleyball slams seventh win
By ROBINNS EXUME
The Red & Black
Head volleyball coach
Joel McCartney wore a red
and black tie around his
neck and a smile on his
face Tuesday night.
With power and relative
ease, the Bulldogs won
their seventh consecutive
match and notched a sev
enth consecutive shutout
with a win over USC
Upstate at the Ramsey
Center.
Playing its first home
game of the young season,
the team looked dominant
and poised throughout the
match.

kills that seemed to sap all
of the energy out of the
opponent.
After a mildly competi
tive first game (30-19), the
Bulldogs topped the
Spartans 30-9 and 30-11 to
close out the match.
“I was really pleased
with our offensive play and
our execution,” McCartney
said. “We played well
tonight.”
Even though the
Spartans did not put up
much of a fight, McCartney
believes that this game
will help his team this
weekend when they find
more competition in
Georgia Tech.
“Something that USC
Upstate showed us was a
fast low offense to their
outside hitter and that is
Georgia Tech’s [method of
operation,] so we felt this
offense tonight prepared
us for what we are going
to see this weekend,” he
said.
With the win, the
Bulldogs surpassed last
year’s win total and are
one win away from match
ing the school’s best ever
winning streak to start a
season.
The Bulldogs (7-0) will
play both Western Carolina
and Georgia Tech Friday
as part of the Georgia
Tech Classic.
