also a regular in both the freestyle and blues
scenes, the Deaf Judges formed and were
poised to attack. With bombastic lyrical barrages
over twisted, old-school hip hop beats, Deaf
Judges' concerts draw large eclectic crowds and
create a party atmosphere. They’ve toured
extensively in the Southeast, up the East Coast
with locals Pegasuses-XL and even played at
South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.
“We had a lot of fun," said Produce Man, “but
eventually the creative aspect of being in a band
began to feel like work, and that's when we
decided to end it.”
If any group knows how hard you have to
work to maintain a successful band, it’s the Deaf
Judges. The Judges had to overcome numerous
obstacles because of their niche sound and their
location. For example, booking shows in a
region consisting predominately of rock venues
was a constant challenge.
“Venues would often only offer us their
Tuesday Hip-Hop Night slots,” said Rorshak
about the frequent pigeonholing they faced.
Despite the odds, however, the Judges were
able to build a strong, devoted fan base in the
Southeast and have become one of the leading
bands in the Athens music scene.
Their most recent EP, “The High Honorable,”
was released for free on the band’s website this
year, and the Judges just finished up a second
EP they also plan to release free of charge.

A The long run off hard-hitting hip-hop and get-on-your-feet live
performances of locals Deaf Judges ends tonight at Caledonia Lounge.
“It’s some of the dopest shit we’ve put out,”
said Louie confidently, “It’s real fun old school
head nod shit with ill beats and cannonball
rhymes.”
The new EP is yet to be titled, but the group
hopes to have it ready for their final show tonight
at the Caledonia Lounge.
The Judges say to expect a party. They will
