at the recent meeting of the Con
verts' League of the District of Co
lumbia. held in the Palm Room of
the Willard Hotel. Bishop Hafey put
himself in the position of someone
intending to leave the Catholic
Church, seeking something better, but
returning again to the center of
truth.

Made a Domestic Prelate

CHARLESTON. S. C.-Tlie Rt. Rev.
Msgr. Charles Dubois Wood, for many
years pastor of St. Mary’s Church
here, who was made a domestic prelate
recently by the Holy Father with the
rank of monsignor, was honored by
P. N. Lynch Council late in Novem
ber on the occasion of Monsignor
Wood’s visit to Charleston. Monsignor
Wood, whose home Is in Middletown,
N. Y., is a charter member of the
local council, which presented him a
silver candelabrum. Monsignor Wood
in his response recalled the history
of the Council and referred to many
of the members, past and present,
with whom he was closely associated.
FORTY HOURS DEVOTION
AT ST. JOSEPH S CHURCH
Forty Hours’ Devotion was held at
St Joseph’s Church November 26-28.
Speakers on the successive evenings
were the Rev. J W. Long, C.S.Sp., the
Rev. John Manning. D.D., and the Rev.
Jos. L. O’Brien, D.D.
MEETING OF CHARLESTON
CATHOLIC WOMEN’S COUNCIL
At the November meeting of the
Council of Catholic Women plans
were made for the visit of Miss Anna
Dill Gamble, of York, Pa., who is on
a lecture tour of the South under the
auspices of the National Council of
Catholic Women. The Charleston
Council, of which Miss Rosa F. Oliver
is president, recently conducted a suc
cessful silver tea.
THE REV. HENRY F. WOLFE, pas
tor of Sacred Heart Church, deliv
ered the eulogy at the annual memo
rial services of the Charleston Lodge
of Elks.

The parishioners of St. Anthony's
Church, Florence, where Monsignor
Wood labored as pastor in bygone
years, paid him tribute on the honor
which has come to him from the Holy
Father at a reception following a

to the Catholic University of Amer
ica, Washington, D. C.
