Reception For 0Y0 Members At
Holy Family Church, Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ga. — Sixty-four -
were received as members of the
Catholic Youth Organization here
at ceremonies marking the close
of the Fourth Annual National
Catholic Youth Week.
The members assembled at the
Holy Family School Chapel to re
cite as a body, the Rosary, and
to hear a short sermon by their
Chaplain, Father John Cuddy.
As Father Cuddy blessed the
pins, the members lit their
candles, knelt to make a public
profession of faith in all the
truths ' taught mankind by Jesus
Christ.
The Chapel then .was plunged
into darkness as the members
arose to progress slowly the asile
with their lighted candles. Ap
proaching the altar in pairs, they
presented their lighted candles
to the chaplain, who, in turn, in
vested each member with the
CYO pin.
When all had been invested
the entire group sang “Faith of
Our Fathers” and Knelt for
Benediction of the Most Blessed
Sacrament, during which, they
recited the CYO pledge.

CYO as its president. Other of
ficers are: Catherine Giglio and
Francis Davidson, vice presi
dents and Barbara Berry, secre
tary.
The CYO is a national club
for Catholic teen-agers, number
ing approximately 1,000,000 mem
bers throughout the nation. The
Columbus branch, initiated last
year has about 75 members.
The purpose of the Columbus
club is to provide educational
and social opportunities for the
Catholic teen-agers of the area
non-Catholie friends.
The primary object is reached,
when on Sunday evenings, the
CYO meets for Discussion Pe
riods.
Discussion leaders are Pat Mey
er. for the seniors; Rex Harrison,
for the juniors; Dr. John Ham-
mes, for the sophomores, and ev
ery Sunday evening at the Holy
Family School.
ALBANY ALTAR
SOCIETY AND
NCCW MEET
ALBANY, Ga. — The meeting of
St. Teresa’s Altar Society and
and Parish Council NCCW held
in the parish hall at 8:30 p.m. on
November 1st was presided over
by Mrs. E. S. Armstrong, Presi
dent.
Miss Bee McCormack gave a
report on the barbecue which was
held recently, showing that it
had been most successful.
The President spoke of the
Columbus Deanery Meeting of
Catholic Women which had been
held on Oct. 20th in Douglas with
13 ladies from Albany attending.
This meeting was a very interest
ing and entertaining one. The

having been- the principal speak
er, his subject being the “Legion
of Mary”. ‘
Mrs. Ken Lewis accepted the
responsibility of the children’s
nursery for the month of De
cember.
Mrs. R. E. McCormack and
Mrs. J. Ray Pinkston agreed to
look after the refreshments, for
the December meeting.
Fr. Bourke announced that the
Mid-night Christmas Mass will be
in the Municipal auditorium a-
gain this year. Mrs. Louise Ault-
man was named chairman of
decorations for this occasion and
Mrs. O. T. Kenan and Mrs. R.
E. McCormack were appointed to
obtain the use of an organ for
this midnight Mass.
The “President’s Message” re
garding the National NCCW Con
vention to be held in Boston,
Cormack will attend, this Con
vention. At this time Mrs. Mc
Cormack was asked to be the
parish chairman of the committee
on Libraries and Literature.
Mrs. McCormack and Mrs. L.
E. Mock, who had both attended
the Catholic Laymen’s Conven
tion in Augusta, told of how in
spiring and interesting it was to
hear Louis Budenz, the principal
speaker, and to have Archbishop-
Bishop O’Hara present on this
occasion.
Fr. Bourke urged Catholics to
subscribe to the periodicals soon
to be sold by the students of the
parochial school.
The meeting was adjourned
with prayer by Fr. Bourke.
MACON LAYMEN
HOLD ELECTION
MACON, Ga. — The Macon
Branch of the Catholic Laymen’s
Association of Georgia recently
chose Charles P. Long as secre
tary-treasurer, succeeding Mrs.
Dan D. Harris, re-elected its pres
ident and vice presidents Mrs.
Charles LeHardy Adams, Sr., N.
J. Pascullis and Jos. P. McGol-
drick, Jr., and elected three ad
ditional vice presidents, Mrs.
Robert M. Hobson, Miss Rebecca
Long and George Landry.
The Macon Branch has during
1954 m&de a special effort to at
tract the newcomers to the parish
and assist them in getting acqu
ainted with older residents.
President John J. McCreary an
nounced that the January meet
ing will be held on the date the
State Executive Committee meets
in Macon and that the state pres
ident and the executive director
will be invited to address the
branch meeting. Branch commit
tee appointments are to be an
nounced in January. *

SAVANNAH, Ga. — At the
monthly meeting of the Knights’
Auxiliary to Knights of Colum
bus last evening at the K of C
Hall, activities were announced
for the month of November and
December. Mi'S. R. F. Ryan, pres
ident, presided.
A dance was held Thanksgiving
eve., and open house was held
Thanksgiving following the S.H.S.
-B.C. game.
Dances will be held every
Saturday night at the K. of C.
Hall after November. It was de
cided that the December meet
ing will not be held .If an emer
gency should arise, the executive
committee will meet.
The annual Christmas dance
will be held December 17 from
9 to 1 p.m. Preceding the dance,
a cocktail hour will be given from
8 to 9 o’clock. Buffet supper will
be served at midnight.
