Daughter Of Rabbi
Enters Church: Had
Long Interest In It
GRANTWOOD, Mo., (NC) —
The daughter of a Jerusalem rab
bi has been baptized a Catholic
here by Father Vincent J. Dug
gan, pastor of Our Lady of Pro
vidence Church.
She is Mrs. Simone Acher War
ner, daughter of Rabbi Acher who
preaches at a Jerusalem syna
gogue.
She attributes her attraction
to the Catholic Faith to child
hood friends, many of whom were
Catholic. “Although my parents
and brothers and sisters are of
the Jewish faith, I had an inter
est in the Church for as long as
I can remember,” she said.
She and her husband, Jay Si
mon, were married by a St. Louis
rabbi in 1947, after both had come
to this country. Mr. Warner, son
of a Jewish father and Protestant
mother, had entered the church
six years ago.
“But Jay never tried to convert
me,” Mrs. Warner recalls. “No
one could have. I had to make
up my own mind.”
“Many hesitate to become
Catholics because they think the
religion is difficult to live up to,”
she said. “To me, becoming a
Catholic is the best thing that
could happen to anyone. And my
daily prayer is that all others
outside the faith will find some
one like Father Duggan to bring
them to the truth.”

David Stoneham of Massachusetts, so when his turn came, he
gave the Pontiff a big hug, which was reciprocated by a smiling
Pontiff. Occasion of the audience in St. Peter's Basilica, was when
