ST, ANTHONY’S
OPEN HOUSE
ATLANTA — Despite incle
ment weather, the Open House
held at St. Anthony’s on Sunday,
September 29th, was a striking'
success. Four hundred and twen
ty-four parents came to the school
to meet their children’s teachers
and to view samples of the child
rens’ progress in school work this
year.
Sunday, October 6th, the first
evening meeting of the St. An
thony’s Parents Club was held.
Mrs. R. W. Ryckeley and the
sixth and seventh grade mothers
served a delicious buffet supper
to over one hundred ninety-five
parents. Several recommenda
tions were made: that a small
house be constructed to house the
j papers for our paper sale; that
i St. Anthony’s provide a refresh-
fment booth at the Campbellton
Plaza Hallowe’en celebration as
a civic gesture; that an all-out
effort be made by the mothers
and fathers of St. Anthony’s to
make the County Fair, St. An-
ithony’s Carnival, a success. Fa
ther James E. King, honorary
president of St. Anthony’s Par
ents Club opened and closed the
meeting with a prayer.
St. Anthony’s School COUNTY
FAIR will be held on Saturday,
October 19th at the school. A
portable TV, an electric blender,
and an electric fry pan will be
given away as prizes. There will
| be booths of interest to all mem-
.bers of the family: hobby display,
| country store, white elephant
(booth, doll show, cake walk, pony
rides, a carousel, French Cafe, re
freshments, fish pond. The Coun
ty fair will be held from 12 p. m.
to 6 p. m.
National Director
Conducts Atlanta
Youth Workshops
ATLANTA — Right Reverend
Monsignor Joseph E. Schieder,
National Director of the National
Council of Catholic Youth, re
cently conducted two workshops
in Atlanta. He met with the
priests in charge of parish youth
groups one day and with repre
sentatives of the youth the next.
The Youth Council plan origi
nated by Monsignor Schieder, was
adopted by the Diocese of At
lanta this past summer. This plan
centers on the Parish Youth
Council, eight members of the
youth group with their priest
Moderator, who lead a program
embracing spiritual, cultural, so
cial and physical activities. Mon
signor Schieder came from the
National Office in Washington,
D. C. to help iron out difficulties
and answer questions.
Both the meetings with the
priest Moderators and the youth
were held at St. Thomas More
rectory in Decatur and were at
tended by representatives of sev
en parishes in the metropolitan
area of Atlanta. Monsignor Schie
der has been Director of the Na
tional Council of Catholic Youth
for ten years. He offered the ben
efit of his great experience and
enthusiasm to the newly estab
lished youth councils of Atlanta.
