FIRST TIME IN 100 YEARS
In a rare photograph, the small revered statue of Our Lady of
Mariazell is shown carried for the first time in procession in
300 years by Archbishop Andreas Rohraeher of Salzburg, Aus
tria. A candlelight procession paid special honor to our Blessed
Mother in ceremonies closing the six-month-long 800th anni
versary jubilee of the Shrine at Mariazell, Austria. Carved from
limewood, the statue is believed to date back to the 12th cen
tury. Only rarely has the statue been seen without elaborate
brocaded garments. (NC Photos)
