OUR CHIMNEY CORNER.
NO. 242. —ILLUSTRATED REBUS.
N0. 243. — PRIZE ARITHMETICAL PUZZLE.
The digits of a number —as most of our readers
know —are the numbers composing the same ;
thus, 7,6, 3 are the digits of 763, and the addition
of these would be as follows : 7x6x3=16, and
then 1 and 6 are 7. Now, what number is that
which if multiplied by itself, or any other number,
and the digits of the result be added together until
a single figure is produced, will always give the
half of itself?
We are authorized to present a year’s subscrip
tion to Burke’s Weekly to the one who first sends
in a correct answer to the above, with a satisfac
tory reason for the fact.

Though speechless, I am wont to cast
Reflections on my friends ;

And to perdition tends.
Such is my w'hole, and now remove
My crown, that fits me well,
And cold indeed the heart must prove
That does not own my spell.
T et strike once more and you shall see
A transformation rare !
First five, then four, and lastly three :
Reader, my names declare.
