With Lambert Reed III
Lambert Reed III
Sophomore
6’2”
170 lbs.
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Major: Business Management
Goals: He wants to graduate,
become an All - American
basketball player by his senior
year. To work and study during
the off season.
Weak points: Lambert feels
that he did not play up to his
potential. He needs to work on
his ball handling and develop
some quickness.
Strong Points: He had the
range on his jump shots and
plays good defense. A tremen
dous competitor on offense and
defense. Lambert really likes the
college atmosphere, he also likes
the teachers at Morris Brown. He
developed a strong attitude and
has matured because of his
father. He is proud of his father
and what he has achieved at
Morris Brown College. Lambert
says that he has a good rapport
with his father.
Personal: He is born under the
sign of Aquarius. He enjoys
people and is very sociable.
Lambert wants to get married
and raise a family.
Hobbies: swimming, magic
tricks, music, women, dancing,
movies and billiard pool.
Achievements: He played on
the Southwest High School State
Championship team in 1978-79.
He was the best shooter in his
senior year. MVP on the J.V.
team at Miami Killian High
School, 1976-77.
Personal Comments: Lambert
would like to see more support
from the student body at the
games. He would like to see
Morris Brown as a black institu
tion cater to the needs of the
student athlete.
Lambert Reed III is a fine
example of a young man who
knows where he is going.
The Background of The Extra Point Club Inc.

The Extra Point Club, Inc. is a
non - profit organization found
ed in 1947 for the purpose of (1)
stimulating the interest of our
youth in sports competition,
improving scholarship and high
moral standards, (2) recognition
of achievement in sports, and (3)
promotion of athletic events.
The Extra Point Club establish
ed theGeorgia InvitationalTour-
nament in 1955 for the purpose
of raising money to support the
club’s youth programs. These
sports activities help contribute
greatly to the physical fitness and
good character building traits in
the youngsters who participate.
The Extra Point Club sponsors a
yearly sports program. These
sports programs are listed as
follows: Pop Warner Football,
Mini Basketball League, Mini
Basketball Tournament, Toy
Bowl Football Came, Atlanta
AAU Tournament, Georgia AAU
Tournament, National AAU
Tournament, National Little
League Baseball, Little League
Scholar for “A” Students, and
Sports Banquet.
Additionally, the club spon
sors an annual Atlanta University
(AU) Center Hall of Fame Sports
Banquet. The banquet honors all
athletes both male and female
who have participated in athletic
programs at AU Center member
institutions.
The club is committed to
promoting AU Center athletic
programs. Annually we select All
Star Teams based on analyses of
statistics of individual perfor
mances and character of the
athlete. Enclosed for your infor
mation are current statistics on
athletes participating in today’s
events.
We solicit your support in
promoting AU Cneter athletic
programs.
Outstanding Athletes Honored
by James Barlow
The Atlanta Tipoff club recent
ly sponsored the 14th Annual
Naismith award banquet, in the
grand Ballroom of the Omni
International Hotel. The
program started with the in
troduction of 1982 honorees, the
invocation, dinner, and the
presentation of awards.
The awards were given to
Metro Atlanta Prep Players of
The Year. They are, Darryl Bed
ford of Campbell High School
and Elizabeth Mathis, Greater
Atlanta Christian High School.,
Included in the McDonald s
All - Americans for 1982 are
Kenny Walker of Crawford
County and Donald Hartry of
Baldwin.
The Georgia College Players of
The Year for junior colleges are
Morgan Taylor of Middle
Georgia and Alison Davis of
Truett - McConnell. For small
colleges the recipients are Ray
Smith of Armstrong State and
our own Silvia Sims of Morris
Brown. Dominique Wilkins of
the University of Georgia shares
the title with Janet Harris, also of
the University of Georgia.
Jackie Bradford, vice president
of Georgia Basketball presented
the awards to the Metro Atlanta
prep players. Art Eckman,
sportscaster at channel 11 TV
introduced guest speaker Curt
Cowdy. Cowdy is nationally
known in the circle of sports as
sportscaster for NBC. His golden
voice was heard all over America
with his commentary on
professional and collegiate
baseball, football, and basket
ball.
Cowdy presented the awards
to the 1982 All - American team.
They are, Kevin Magee of the
University of California - Irvine,
Eric Floyd of the University of
Georgetown, Terry Cummings
of DePaul University, Ralph
Sampson of the University of
Virginia and James Worthy of the
University of North Carolina.
The highlight of the evening
was the award given to Sylvia
Sims as the samll college player
of the year. Sims averaged 27.7
points and 5.8 assists per game in
spectacular fashion. She has
brought the crowd to their feet
at Morris Brown With her out
standing ball - handling,
quickness, and accurate jump
shot. The brilliant display of
basketball talent by Sims had
brought a great deal of exposure
to the campus. She was honored
by the Atlanta Tip - Off club for
her individualism off the court.
