Morris Brown Players
Present
"Happy Ending &
Day of Absence"

The Morris Brown Players
presented two of the most
successful black plays of the mid
1960’s, Happy Ending and Day of
Absence by Douglas Turner
Ward. The plays were presented
at the Viola Hill Auditorium,
April 1-3. The plays were under
the direction of Ms. Anita L.
Thomas.
Happy Ending is a comedy
facing the problems of two
domestics having their advan
tages of working for a particular
family being cut. They go
through a short crisis because
“the boss man and the boss lady
are getting a divorce.” The cast in
order of appearance were:
Pamela Jones as Ellie, Sheena
Sams as Vi, Clifford Emmanuel as
Junie, and Kenneth Banks as
Authur.
Day of Absence is a farce of
blacks in white faces dealing with
the hysteria of a Southern town
to the disappearance of its black
people. The cast in order of
appearance were: Lloyd Taylor,
Luke/ Businessman; Charles
Phillips, Clem/ Jackson; Karl
Gamble, John/ Rev. Pious; Tracy
Rector, Mary/ Announcer;
Camilla Clay, Operator/ Citizen
Ms. Aide; Lynne Millington,
Operator/ Citizen /
Clubwoman; Angela Hender
son, Supervisor / Courier;
Anthony Q. Thompson, Mayor;
Kenneth Banks, Industrialist/
Announcer; Kenneth Jones,
Klan; and Clifford Emmanuel,
Atlanta
Rastus.
The technical crew behind the
scenes included Kenneth Jeffer
son, Production Stage Manager,
Set and Light Design; Carl
Hunter, stage Manager; Belinda
Barnes, Costumes, Kenyatta
Ferrell and Richard Jones,
Production Assistants and
Melvatasky Cain and Avis
Ledbetter, make-up.
The Morris Brown players had
a full - house for all three nights.
The reaction of the audience was
proof enough that the produc
tion, both on stage and off, was a
total success.
Prizes will be awarded to
bikers raising the most money.
Grand prize will be weekend
accommodations for two at The
Gospel Movement
The Atlanta Gospel Movement
is a young, motivated inspiring
spiritual, non - profit organiza
tion which uplifts the name of
God and Salvation through song.
The A. G. M. consists of strong,
positive, spiritual minded young
adults attending colleges in the
Atlanta University Center and
colleges and universities in the
Atlanta area.
Schools that are represented
in the membership are Morris
Brown, Clark, Morehouse,
Spellman, Atlanta University,
Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and
the University of Georgia.
The A. G. M. has just com
pleted its spring tour traveling to
various cities in the mid-west.
Those cities included DeMoines,
Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota;
Chicago, Illinois; Toledo and
Columbus, Ohio; and Nashville,
Tennessee.
This tour was successful as
many souls were spiritually reviv
ed and motivated, not only the
souls of those who had the
opportunity to receive the word
through song, but the souls of
the members of the Atlanta
Gospel Movement, too.
The movement will continue
to up-lift the name of the Lord by
spreading the Gospel during the
remainder of this semester. The
A. G. M. will be singing in York,
South Carolina during the first
weekend in April. They will also
be singing in Albany, Georgia
during the weekend of April,
and during the final weekend in
April, they’ll be rendering their
final concert for this semester at
Grace Covenant Baptist Church.
The A. G. M. is proud to
function as one body witnessing
for Christ. This group is presently
Bicycle Touring
Students interested in bicycle
touring are invited to participate
in the 1982 Bike Trek for Life and
Breath, May 29-31.
The 150-mile bike tour, spon
sored by the Georgia Lung
Association and Gatorade, is
designed to raise funds for GLA
by utilizing a sponsor - based
pledge system.
Bikers will get a scenic tour of
historic central and south
Georgia, with overnight cam
ping planned for Reidsville and
Savannah. Radio station WAEV
will act as host in Savannah. The
FM station is also planning to
have an oyster roast for all
trekkers.
Participants must be at least 16
and in good physical condition.
All bicyclist will be expected to
supply their own gear and secure
the minimum pledge, $150.
The Lung Association will
provide materials for obtaining
sponsors, breakfast, dinner, sup
port vehicles, camping
arrangements and other
logistical support. Gatorade will
provide refreshments and of
ficial trek T-shirt.
Cloister on Sea Island. Other
weekend packages will be
awarded from Stouffer's Pinelsle
Resort at Lake Lanier and from
Callaway Gardens Resort. Gift
certificates from bike shops will
be given to trekkers raising over
$250.
In addition to raising money,
the Lung Association is using the
bike trek to emphasize GLA’s
support of bicycling as a clean air
activity.

Run For Funds
The Atlanta Club of the
Howard University Alumni
Association will hold its First
Annual RUN FOR FUNDS,
Saturday May 22, 1982 at Adams
Park. The run - a - thon will start
at 8:30 am with the BEGINNERS
DELITE race of 1 mile. At 9:00 am
the MAIN EVENT of 3.1 miles will
begin.
Advance donation of $5.00 will
be accepted by mail until May
15; after which donations will be
$7.00 only on the day of the race.
Registration starts at 7:00 a.m.
All proceeds are for the
Howard University Scholarship
Fund.

Children's Theatre
In its efforts to promote the
highest quality theatre foryoung
audiences in Georgia, the Atlan
ta Children’s Theatre Guild will
sponsor a playwriting contest.
Between now and June 30,
1982. submitted scripts will be
critiqued by a committee of
Guild members and theatre staff.
Requirements for the script are:
Original material (no adap
tations)
The selected winner will
receive $1,000. The Atlanta
Children's Theatre will have the

Action oriented with emphasis
on a hero
No longer than 50 minutes
Maximum cast of 12
(Musical format is acceptable
if combined with the above

option to produce the winning
play, and will pay customary
royalties.
The AtlantaChildren'sTheatre
Guild, under the leadership of
Nancy Gullickson, serves as a
liaison between the theatre and
the educational community of
Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
The prize in this competition was
donated to the Guild in memory
of Stephanie Olson, a memberof
both the Atlanta Children's
Theatre staff and Guild.
