WHO'S WHO SELECTED BY STUDENT BODY

The Hexagon, staff takes
honor in announcing the out
come of the selection of Who’s
Who. The following twenty
students were selected by fel
low senior classmates and ap
proved by the faculty of E1CHS.
These students were judged on
attitude, scholarship, character,
leadership and service. The
following seniors were chosen:
Samantha Abner, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jes-se Abner,
Samantha is President of the
Student Council, a member of
the Blue Devil Marching Band,
FHA, Alpha Beta, Mu Alpha
Theta, International Relations,
and the Athena Tri-Hi-Y.
Max Black, son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. F. Black Jr. He is a
member of the chess team, the
National Honor Society, and
Mu Alpha Theta clubs.
Rhonda Bell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Bell. iShe is
President of the International
Relations club, treasurer of Mu
Alpha Theta, secretary of Al
pha Beta club, and a member
of the FHA club.
Kit Brown, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. T. Brown. Kit is the
photographer of the annual,
member of the Key Club, Blue
Sword, ROTO Drill Team, In
ternational Relations Club, and
Reporter of the Thespians
Club.
Crystal Brown, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Brown Jr.
Crystal is president of the Sen
ior class, a member of the
FHA, Alpha Beta, Mu Alpha
Theta, and International Rela
tions Clubs.
Donnie Cobo, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Max J. Cobo. He was a
member of the football team
and is a member of the Inter
act and Mu Alpha Theta clubs.
Linda Faye Perrin, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Perrin.
Linda was chosen Miss F.H.A.
earlier this year by members of
the club. Linda is an active
member of the Blue Devil
Marching Band. She is also a
member of the Beta Club and
a reporter for the Hexagon
staff,
Alan Harris, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Harris Sr. He is a
member of the Key Club, Span
ish, DEIOA, and Pep Clubs.
Nancy Dove, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Dove. Nancy
is a member of the basketball
chefrleading squad, Interna
tional Relations Club, and Pep
and Health clubs.
Tommy Howell, son of Mr.
and Mrs, Cullen "B. Howell,
Tommy is President of the
DECA club and is also a mem
ber of the Mu Alpha Theta
club.
Patricia Griffith, daughter of
Mr., and Mrs. Frank Griffith.
Pat is vice-president of the
Senior class and is a member
of the Alpha Beta, Mu Alpha
Theta, Athena Tri-Hi-Y, and
International Relations clubs.
Arnie Limgle, son of Mrs. A.
H. Lingle. Arnie is a member
of the Mu Alpha Theta and the
International Relations clubs.
Myra Lunsford, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Collier Lunsford,
Myra is vice-president of the
student council and is a mem
ber of the FBLA, Thespians
Troupe, International Relations
and Athena Tri-Hi-Y clubs.
Myra was also a member of the
football cheerleading squad and
was chosen by the student body
as Homecoming Queen ’74.
Bryan Lunsford, son of Mr.
and Mrs. G. L. Lunsford. He
is a member of the Interact and
4-H Clubs. Bryan was a mem-

Anchors, NHS
Honor Students

The Anchor Club and the Na
tional Honor Society, under the
sponsorship of Mrs. Ann E’ckler
and Mrs. Marilyn Lanier, re
spectively, took time< this
month to pay recognition to va
rious sudents here at ECHS
that-are often taken for grant
ed. People often pass by these
people without fully realizing
how instrumental.they are to
this school.
The Anchor Club recognizes
Donald Wayne Ward and Helen
Grant as their Captain and
First Mate for the month of
February. Donald, son of Mr.
and Mrs. L. S, Ward, is a very
active member of the B-team
Blue Devils basketball team.
Helen, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Grant, adds her tal
ents to the Delta Beta and In
ternational Relations Clubs.
Both Wayne and Helen were
praised by fellow classmates
and teachers as very “involved,
alert, and studious” in their
studies and activities,
The National Honor Society
singled out two of its members
for special recognition. The
Honor Society chose Elaine
Butler, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs, James M. Butler and
Julie Grimes, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles P. Grimes as
their pick.
Elaine is a guard for the
Devilettes and is described' as
a “vital link” to the team. She
is vice-president of the Alpha
Beta Club, a member of FBLA;
International Relations, and

Joe Colvard Is
YICA Speaker

The YICA club was honored
last week to have Mr. Joe Col
vard., Administrative Assistant
of. the Elberton-Eilbert County
Hospital, speak to the group.
Mr. Colvard is in charge of the
Elbert County Ambulance Ser
vice, operating out of the coun
ty hospital as the home base.
He outlined the services of the
ambulance units and duties of
the crew. After giving a very
interesting fair concerning the
Health Services of the hospital
and Safety Measures, individ
uals were able to understand
how to make* the service more
efficient. Then the meeting
was opened to questions. Sub
jects of all kinds were discuss
ed and authoritative answers
were given by Mr. Colvard. He
made everyone realize the im
portance of having a real up to
date hospital, a highly trained
ambulance crew, as well as ex
cellent personnel to handle our
health problems. The YICA
club would like to extend their
thanks to Mr. Colvard for tak
ing time out of his busy sched
ule to speak to the club.

Better Year-75
The month of January owes
its name to the ancient Roman
deity, Janus, god of doorways
as well as god of the beginning
of any important undertaking.
Janus was two-faced, not be
cause he was double-dealing or
false, but rather because he
stood guard at the gates of
Rome. One face turned to the
front; the other, to the back.
Therefore, none could enter or
leave Rome without his know
ing it.
January, then, is appropri
ately named after Janus; for it
is the beginning of a very im
portant undertaking; a new
year. Additionally, since he
faces both to the front and to
the back of the entrance to the
city, he symbolically looks back
on the year just ended and for
ward to the year beginning.
So look back with Janus to
1974. Reflect on the sorrows
and joys of the past. Further,
consider what you have learn
ed during that year. Then, look
forward to 1975 with renewed
courage based on the mistakes
of the past and the knowledge
resulting from each experience.
And with Janus, prepare for
an even better year.
