SOUTHERN NOTES
(Continued from page 18)
Camden, adopted a plan whereby all
Jewish children in the rural communities
who are in need of them would be sup
plied with Sabbath School books, and
arrangements would be made for those
Jewish children who live near enough to
the larger centers, to attend Sabbath
school regularly.
Mrs. H. Barnett, of Sumter, was ap
pointed chairman of Religious Schools,
to take charge of this work, assisted by
Mrs. M. S. Lurniansky, of Darlington,
chairman of Sisterhood Extension. Mrs.
Barnett has years of experience in Sis
terhood work and is well qualified to de
velop and carry on this most important
phase of Sisterhood activities.
Mrs. Barnett plans to visit every Sab
bath School in the state and make it pos
sible for every Jewish child in the state
to register in a Sabbath School. She also
plans to arrange programs that will as
sist the Sabbath Schools in the observance
of all Jewish Holy Days, festivals and
holidays. And the establishment and
maintenance of a library for all of the re
ligious schools is another one of her ob
jectives. Thu* making the advantages
of both the Sabbath Schools and library
available to every Jewish child in the
state.
The State Federation is to be com
mended for the courage of its membership
in undertaking such an ambitious and far
sighted plan. It is a step in the right di
rection and the members fully realize
that the perpetuation of Judaism depends
very largely on the inculcation of its
principles and idealism into the hearts
of the children.
