WHAT IS A JEW?
(Continued from page 12)
“You don’t look like the Jews in my
town."
"Where are you from?"
“New York City."
Some look with amusement at the
Scrolls and, when informed that they
contain the Bible in Hebrew, ask, "When
was the King James Bible translated into
Hebrew?" A college graduate offered
the following, "My knowledge of Judaism
is limited to Time; is it reliable?" Per
haps the most astonishing experience was
that of a minister from northern Wiscon
sin, who came in one day and asked,
“Are you a full-blooded Jew?" Upon re
ceiving an affirmative reply he presented
the following interesting comment:
"1 have been preaching the Gospel for
thirty years and have often mentioned the
Pharisees, but until now 1 never saw
what a Pharisee looked like. When my
congregation asked me whether there
were any more Pharisees left, I told them
that I had heard that there are some in
New York but that I had never seen one.
I’ve been reading the papers very care
fully of late and 1 have heard that there
are also some Jews in Germany."
Alas, poor Goy.
