INSURANCE AGAINST
ANTI-SEMITISM
If Lloyd's Ltd., of London, world-
famous insurance company which
writes policies against political elec
tions as well as against measles and
has a reputation of never having
refused oven the most freakish kind
of policy—if Lloyd’s had accepted
insurance policies covering anti-
Semitism two years ago from its
German clientele it would probably
Imvo gone Into bankruptcy. The
thought occurs to us because of an
insurance policy underwritten by
Lloyd’s guaranteeing to pay a
French Jew five thousand dollars
at Tel Aviv in the event the French
government should ever enact anti-
Semitic laws.
This news story sounds almost
like a hoax but knowing Lloyd's
gambling spirit we do not doubt its
authenticity. In any case it opens
new channels of speculation as to
what would happen to the Jewish
people If, for instance, a collective
Insurance policy were taken out by
world Jewry, protecting it, econom
ically at least, to the tune of let us
say five billion dollars against anti-
Semitism—the premium to be pay
able in Palestine. Some of our
Zionist orators have long ago call
ed Palestine world Jewry’s insur-
anoo against persecution. The only
question Is as to whether Lloyd’s
would insure Palestine Jewry
against new Arab outbreaks. There
Is, however, no doubt that Lloyd’s
Is not taking much of a risk by
insuring our French confrere. We
wonder whether an insurance com
pany specializing in that kind of
policy In this country would do any
business.
Ten Algerian Jews
Acquitted of Charges
Paris (WNS) — Reports received
her from Algeria announce the ac
quittal of ten Jews, including four
policemen, who were charged with
. having provoked the anti-Semitic
riots of last August by firing on
Arabs. Testimony presented to the
Constantine court showed that the
Jews had fired only in self-defense
and not before the actual rioting
had begun.

precedent of far-reaching impor
tance when he granted a perma
nent injunction restraining Wil
iam Whittaker, leader of the anti-

ing individual members of a race

as a whole is libsled.
The injunction was granted as
a result of a damage suit insti

Call General Zionist
Conference In Jerusalem
Jerusalem (WNS—Palcor Agen
cy)—The Palestine Merkaz of the
World Union of General Zionists
has decided to propose to the
European Merkaz at Cracow that
it should summon a new world
conference of the General Zion
ists in Jerusalem, prior to the
meeting of the Actions Commit
tee. This would give an oppor
tunity for participation in the
conference of those General Zion
ist groups which had not been
represented at Cracow.
Senior Hadassah Progress
Mrs. S. E. Levy, presided at the
recent meeting of Senior Hadassah.
Mrs. Herbert Taylor gave an elo
quent report of the .Southern Re-
I gional conference held at Nash-
I ville. This conference was also at-
! tended by Mrs. S. E. Levy and Mrs.
Harry Lever.
Senior Hadassah Is now concen
trating on its inlant Welfare ana
School Luncheons Fund project, of
I which Mrs. J. Abelson and Mrs. J.
j Isenberg are co-chairmen. During
the past two years of unpecedent-
cd immigration into Palestine, Ha
dassah has added seven thousand
school children to its registration
for health supervision, and the
number of school children to re
ceive hot lunches through Hadas
sah has increased to forty-five hun
dred.
The twenty-two Infant Welfare
stations situated in various urban
and rural centers throughout Pal
estine increased its mothers and
children registration by four thou
sand during the past year to total
twenty-five thousand. With the in
creased demand, Hadassah has in
creased its service to meet the de
mand, further reducing infant mor
tality and maternal deaths among
women under Hadassah's care. The
latter is now 3.08 deaths out of
every 1,000 cases. P. Medical ser
vice is non-sectarian, and through
these activities, Hadassah has lift
ed the health norm of the country
so that Palestine is looked upon by
neighboring states as a criterion
and leader in health progress.
