DANCE FOR JDC “SOS"
Plans have been completed for
the jukebox dance in the Alli
ance auditorium, Sunday eve
ning. for the benefit of the cur
rent JDC collection of supplies
for overseas survivors. Admis
sion will be by the presentation
of five of the needed article per
person. Needed supplies include
panned and dehydrated foods,
comfort items and medicines,
household supplies, infants and
children’s items. It is planned
to have two basketball games
preceding the dance.
The SOZ Alumni will meet the
JTC Zebras at 8 p. m. and a girls
game will be played at 7 p. m.

PINT. PONG TABLES
ON THE WAY
Maxwell H. Tasgal, director of
activities, announces three new
ping-pong tables have been pur
chased. As soon as they arrive
the new tables will be placed in
the auditorium with the present
ni;e. A tennis table league is
being planned for both boys and
girls.

BASKETBALL RESULTS
Results of the games played
last Sunday are as follows:
In the “A" league, AZA 134
defated AZA 357 by a score of
31 to 15. Simon was high scorer
for the winners with nine points.
Aronoff scored seven for the
losers.
AZA JTC won from AZA 518
by 33 to 13. Cowan scored 14
points for the winners. Stein
berg and Rose each scored six
points for the losers.
In the B” league. AZA 134 de
feated AZA JTC by 35 to six.
Aronoff was high scorer for the
winners with 12 points.
DSI defeated LAP 18 to 15 in
the B” league. Pinsky was high
scorer for the winners with five
points. Benator scored four
points for the losers.
In thp “Double A” league, the
Amity Club fought hard to win
from the JTC Zebras with the
final score 37 to 36. Minsk was
high scorer for tho winners with
seven points. Edelstein scored
13 points for the losers.
In the girls’ league, DOZ de
feated TNL 26 to 14. Spielberger
and Zimmerman scored eight
points each for the winners.
Cohen scored 11 points for the
losers.
The BBG defeated SDG 18 to
nine. Edelstein was high scorer
for the winners with 10 points.
Weintraub scored six points for
the losers.
Next week’s schedule is as fol
lows:
Tuesday. Feb. 26, 4:30 p. m..
BBG vs. DOZ: Wednesday, Feb.
27, 5 p. m„ SDG vs. TNL.

SDG WINS
In an exciting game Tuesday
: afternoon, the SDG Club de-
| feated the SOZ 18 to 17. It was
SDG’s first victory of the year.
OBITUARY
JOSEPH LOEWUS died at his
residence here Monday. Sur
viving relatives include his wid
ow; one son, Lt. Comdr. Julian
S. Loewus, Washington, D. C.,
and one granddaughter, Miss
Ann Lee Loewus, Washington,
D. C.

MRS. IDA LEFKOFF died here
at her home Monday. Funeral
services will be held in the
Greenberg and Flinn Chapel,
with Rabbi Harry Epstein and
Cantor Joseph Schwartzman of
ficiating.
Surviving relatives include:
four daughters, Mrs. Alex Fried
man, Mrs. Joseph Sicro, Miss
Sarah Lefkoff, Atlanta and Mrs.
Louis Lefkowitz, Bronx, N. Y.;
three sons, Stephen, N. Y ; Lewis
R., Atlanta and W. K. Lefkoff,
Chattanooga; one sister, Mrs.
Harry Kaufman, Brooklyn and
one brother, Jake Kaplan,
Brooklyn.

MRS ESTHER ANTOPOLSKY
died Feb. 16. Funeral services
were conducted by Rabbi Henry
Goldberger in Augusta. Inter
ment was in Magnolia Cemetery.
A TRIBUTE from the 10,500 surviving Jews in Greece to the
life-saving work of the United Jewish Appeal was received
when Isador Coons, executive vice-chairman of the UJA
(left) accepted from Israel G, Jacobson, JDC representative
just returned from Greece, a scroll inscribed in Greek, Hebrew
and English. Expressing their heart-felt gratitude for the
vital necessities and services provided by Americans.
Study Group Offers
Lecture Series At Club
Dr. Gerhart Neimeyer will give
the first of three talks Tuesday
evening, Feb. 26, at the Stand
ard Club. This free series, “Is
Our Democracy Safe Now?”, is
sponsored by by the study group
of the Council of Jewish Women.
Dr. Neimeyer is professor of
political science at Oglethorpe
University.
Dates of the succeeding lec
tures are March 12 and 26.
Plans Completed
For Parent-Teacher
Tea At Synagogue
Arrangements have been com
pleted for the parent-teacher
tea to be given by the Sister
hood of the Shearith Israel
Congregation, Sunday, at 4:00
p. m., in the synagogue, honor
ing faculty members and parents
of children in the congregation’s
religious school.
The occasion will afford the
parents an opportunity to meet
the faculty members and discuss
individual child problems.
Hostesses for the tea are Mrs.
S. Goncher, chairman, Mrs. A.
Auerbach, Mrs. L. S. Horowitz,
Mrs. Kate Zimmerman, Mrs. Joe
Tuck, and Mrs. Tobias Geffen.
A program has been planned
for the occasion and parents
are urged to be present. A prize
wiir be given to the class having
the best representation of
parents.
Bar Mitsvah
Samuel April, son of Rabbi and
Mrs. Simon April of Savannah,
formerly of Miami, observed his
13th birthday here last week
end.

Preparing For
Purim Luncheon
The Pioneer Women’s organ
ization is sponsoring it’s second
Annual Purim luncheon Wed

Sweden To Welcome
Polish Refugees;
Palestine Aid Offered
STOCKHOLM (OJI) — Jews
fleeing from Poland will find
asylum in Sweden, declared
Premier Peer Albin Hansson In
an interview with Dr. Samuel
Margoshes, Louis Segal and
Hillel Storch, representatives of
the World Jewish Congress now
on their way to Poland.
Premier Hanson added Sweden
will continue its policy of gen
erosity towards Jews fleeing
persecution, and that 1,000
Jewish children fleeing from Po
land will be granted entrance
permits.
In a cable received from
Stockholm the delegates of the
World Jewish Congress revealed
that immigration from Poland Is
part of a large scale postwar
program of social help to be
undertaken by Sweden.
This program Includes not
only activities within Sweden but
also aid for a Jewish Palestine.
