Set For Spring Of ’62
NEW YORK, (WUP)—The role
of Jewry and Judaism in the
building of America will be high
lighted nationally next Spring
through a Jewish History Week
Observance, sponsored by the
American Jewish Historical So
ciety, Dr. Abram Kanof, the So
ciety’s president, announced this
week.
The atm of the observance is
to spur an interest in American
Jewish history and Jewish
Americans, to broaden under
standing of the relationship be
tween Jewish ideals of demo
cracy and American forms and
concepts. The week of the ob
servance will be April 1-8,

To Build Succoth
In London Borough
LONDON, (JTA) — An order
prohibiting the erection of Suc-
cot without obtaining a license
was issued here by the Borough
Council of Hackeny, a district
in East London.
The borough’s official Civic
News carried a notice declaring
“these small buildings are often
highly decorative, but can be
dangerous if not well designed
and erected. Before temporary
structures can be erected, per
mission should be obtained from
the Town Hall.”
Rabbi Simon M. Lehman,
spiritual leader of the Hackney
Synagogue, declared that he
could not see how “the Council
can stop us from building Succot
in our gardens.” He added that
the Council might note the fact
that “60 to 70 percent of Hack
ney’s voters are Jewish.

been assigned to command the
USS Vulcan, flagship of Service
Squadron IV. A 1938 Annapolis
graduate, Capt. Superfine form

ish Women resistance fighters,
whose heroism had made a mock
ery of Hitler’s “supermen,” ap
pear in a lengthy feature story
published in the September issue
of “True Story” magazine. En
titled “The Women Death
Couldn't Kill,” the article is
based on newly-discovered docu
ments. Millard Lampbell, who
wrote the Broadway play for
“The Wall,” is the author or the
“True Story” feature.
