Mr. and Mrs. Richard W.
Schiffman of Atlanta announce
the engagement of their daugh
ter, Helen Marie Schiffman, to
Paul Robert Levine, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Maurice Levine of Mer
ritt Island, Fla.
The bride-elect attended Ogle
thorpe College and will enter the
University of Miami in the fall.
Mr. Levine attended Emory
University, where he was a mem
ber of Alpha Epsilon Pi and
Aplha Epsilon Delta. He will
enter the University of Miami
School of Medicine in the fall.
The wedding will be held De
cember 28 at the Sandard Club.
Scouts Honor
LaGrange’s
Milton Edelson
LAGRANGE, Ga.— Milton B.
Edelson, scion of a Jewish fam
ily here which has recorded many
achievements in communal and
religious affairs, has just been
accorded another high honor —-
award of the Wood Badge,
symbol of leadership and distinc
tion in Adult Boy Scout training
and capability.
Mr. Edelson, a local business
man and a lifetime resident of
this city, received this recogni
tion after an eight-day intensive
course in Florida, climaxing his
long experience in Scouting. Be
fore graduation from LaGrange
High School, as a member of
Troop 21, he had been given the
highest honor a Scout can at
tain, that of Eagle with palms,
along with membership in the
Order of the Arrow and Vigil
Honor.
Milton Edelson’s mother, Mrs.
Harry Edelson, has long been a
foremost worker in the local
chapter of Hadassah, his father
was instrumental in founding
and building the Jewish Syna
gogue in LaGrange.
Following two years’ service in
the U. S. Navy, Mr. Edelson has
held the posts of Merit Badge
Counselor, District Camping
Chairman, and member of the
Chattahoochee County Camping
Committee. Under his guidance,
ten troops from this district at
tended summer camps in 1968.
Mr Edelson also is a past di
rector of the LaGrange Jaycees,
past president of Beth El Syn
agogue, member of the LaGrange
Moose Club and treasurer of this
city’s United Jewish Appeal.
Silverstein—Rosenberg
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Silver- •
stein of Atlanta, announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Sha
ron, to Philip Rosenberg, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rosenberg of
Brooklyn.
The bride-elect attended Briar-
cliff High School and is now a
senior at the University of Geor
gia. She will receive her B. S.
degree in elementary education
this June. Miss Silverstein is a
member of Delta Phi Epsilon
Sorority, where she held the
position of recreational activities
chairman. Miss Silverstein was
also on the sweetheart court of
TEP at Georgia Tech and is a
graduate of Ahavath Achim Syn
agogue Sunday School class.
Philip Rosenberg graduated
from Wingate High School in
Brooklyn, New York. He has re
ceived his A.B. degree in polit
ical science from the University
of Georgia, where he was an af
filiate of Alpha Epsilon Pi social
fraternity. Mr. Rosenberg is now
attending graduate school at the
University of Georgia, where he
is completing work on his Mas
ter’s Degree in public admini
stration.

Farber—Brown
Linda Anne Farber, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Farber
of Atlanta, became the bride of
Steven George Brown, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Brown of Coral
Gables, Fla., Sept. 4 at the Mar
riott Motor Hotel. Rabbi Rich
ard Lehrman officiated.
The bride was given in mar
riage- by her father. Sondra Far
ber was maid of honor. Brides
maids were Gayle Farber, Wendy
Brown of Coral Gables, and
Cator Ballenger. Flower girl was
Diane Farber.
Leonard Farber was best man.
Groomsmen were Robert
Schwartz of California, Gary
Brown of Coral Gables, and
Hardie Wedeen of Perth Amboy,
N. J. Peter Brown of Coral
Gables was ringbearer.
A reception and dinner was
given by the bride’s parents at
the Marriott Mrs. Stuart Marcus
kept the bride’s book.
After a wedding trip to Dorado
Beach, Puerto Rico, the newly
weds will live in Kendall, Fla.
Isenberg—Soffer
Mr. and Mrs. Sam M. Isenberg
of Atlanta announce the engage

Terry Isenberg. to Martin Soffer,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Sof

The bride-elect is the grand
daughter of Mrs. Morris Wein

Mr. Soffer is the grandson of
Mrs. Harry I. Soffer of New
York and the late Mr. Soffer
and the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Axel of Richmond.
The future bridegroom attend

School of Pharmacy, and was
graduated from Randolph Macon
College. He is employed in At
lanta.

Ahavath Achim’s 1966 Bond Drive
Leader Is Marvin Singer
Marvin Singer, distinguished
leader of communal activities,
will be chairman of the 1966 Is
rael Bond drive at Ahavath
Achim Synagogue, it was an
nounced this week by Harry
Lane Siegel, president of Ahav
ath Achim congregation.
The campaign is now under
way and will be climaxed by a
major event in October. It will
derive its inspiration from a cel
ebration of the eighteenth an
niversary of Israel’s independ
ence, the so-called “Year of
Chai’’ or Life (in Hebrew, the
number eighteen, “Chai,” also
signifies the word for life).
Mr. Siegel praised Mr. Singer
for his devotion to the Israel
Bond program and his tireless
work on behalf of the people of
Israel. “Our perennial Atlanta
effort has had no more dedi
cated supporter over the years
than Mr. Singer,” he declared,
“and I am certain that he will
lead the Ahavath Achim cam
paign to the successful conclus
ion which experience has taught
us to expect.”
Mr. Singer, formerly of Co
lumbus, Ga., and his wife, the
former Elaine Mendel of Atlanta,
Schwartz—Cushman
AIKEN, S. C. — Miss Leona
Schwartz became the bride of H.
W. Cushman Jr. in a ceremony
Saturday, Sept. 10, at Adas Yesh-
urun Synagogue. Rabbi Norman
Goldburg officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schwartz.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. H. W. Cushman Sr.
Mr. Cushman served as his
son’s best man. Ushers were Bill
Creaseman and Martin Sawyer.
Miss Jenny Cushman, sister of
the bridegroom, was maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss
Barbara Schwartz and Miss Julia
Schwartz, sisters of the bride.
A reception was held in the
Synagogue center. Assisting were
Mrs. Larry Schwartz, Miss Eliz
abeth Dobie and Miss Becki
Payton.
The couple will reside at 145
Sharyn Lane in Aiken.
The Telethon committee for
the annual new member telethon
of Brandeis University National
Women’s Committee has been
announced by Mrs. Sam Alter-
man, new member chairman.

Fulton Industrial District. He is
a graduate of the University of
Georgia in 1943 and holds a BBA
degree. He has been a past com
mander of the Jewish War Vet
erans while living in Columbus
and during his residence there
was also a past president of
Shearith Israel Synagogue Men’s
Club and a member of the
Board. Currently he is first vice
president of Gate City Lodge of
B’nai B’rith and is presently
serving as President Designate of
that organization. He is a Mem
ber of the Board of Ahavath
Achim Synagogue; a delegate to
the Atlanta Jewish Community
Council; a member of Tau Ep
silon Phi, social fraternity; and
the Progressive Club of Atlan
ta.
In accepting the position, Mr.
Singer stated that he was grat
ified by the appointment and
looked forward to meeting the
challenge posed by Israel's am
bitious development plans for the
next few years.

serve the people of Israel in a

Group to Hear 1
Hannah Stein
Miss Hannah Stein, executive
director of the National Council
of Jewish Women, will be the
principal speaker at this year’s
opening meeting of the Atlanta
NCJW. The dinner meeting will
be held at the Standard Club on
Sunday, Sept. 18, at 7:15 p. m.
Miss Stein has been active in
NCJW affairs since becoming
Executive Director in 1959. She
participated in the 1959 White
House Conference on Children
and Youth and the first White
House Conference on Aging in
1961. She has also represented
NCJW at National Conferences
on Social Welfare and Jewish
Community Services.
A native of Germany, Miss
Stein was World War II Presi
dent of the Zionist Youth of
Great Britain.
