pressions like these: the third
i wave - third immigration, the se
cond, the first. The year 1920,
the years 1946-48 and finally
this one that started basically in
1972 and continuous till present
day. I don’t want to go into the
details about the first and se
cond immigration because I
don’t know enough about this
subject
The immigration of 1945-48
years, that happened just after
the WWII, was hidden from all
the Soviet people. The Russian
government lied to their people.
Only now, after I left the Soviet
Union, did I realize that
everything they published in the
books and papers, showed in the
movies and told on the radio -
were all lies about the events of
the second immigration. Now,
being here, meeting people from
the first and second im-
migrations helped us to find out
the real truth.
The purpose of this article is
to tell about the third immigra
tion and more specifically, about
the mass Jewish immigration, to
which I and my family belong.
My previous article was publish
ed in The Southern Israelite. In
that article I told about how we
get out of the Soviet Union.
About all the troubles and humi
liation we went through. About
the horrible border crossing.
About the torture of going
through customs. And then
about our first impressions aftcr^
we arrived in Vienna and Rome,
and finally to United States. The
HIAS send us to Atlanta,
Georgia, and we got a warranty
from there.
The people here met us very
warmly. They gave us the key to
a two-bedroom apartment,
already furnished, equipped
with everything we needed, with
refrigerator full of food. We
could feel that these people care
about our family. They helped to
enroll our children to the
Hebrew Academy. That’s how
ended my first article in
December, 1974.
It is now two years since
me and my family are here in
United States. And I want to
talk more specific now about our
beautiful southern city Atlanta

and about the Jewish Federation

There were very few Russian
Jews immigrants in Atlanta in
November 1974 when we came
