Dr. Harvey Silverman of
Atlanta has been appointed
chairman of the Dental
Subcommittee of the Jewish
Home.
Dr. Silverman received his
doctor of dental surgery degree
from the Medical C ollege of
Virginia and his master of
science from Wayne State
University Medical School. He
served his residency at Sinai
Hospital in Detroit, and is
board certified in oral and
maxillofacial surgery. A
member of Alpha Omega
Dental Fraternity, he was
appointed assistant clinical
professor in the Department of
Surgery, Division of Oral
Surgery at Emory University
and Grady Hospital. In his
report at the last medical board
meeting of the Home, Dr.
Silverman outlined a compre
hensive plan of dental screening
and services for the residents.
Henry Levy of Savannah has
been elected treasurer of the newly
formed Skidaway Marine Science
Foundation Inc.
The purpose of the foundation is
to increase knowledge of
Skidaway Institute and to promote
research scholarship.

Eric A. Schoenberg of
Dunwoody is one of 1000
outstanding young American
students to become a 1980 finalist
in the Presidential Scholars
Program which annually identifies
the most distinguished and
accomplished high school seniors
in the nation.
Eric, the son of Colonel and
Mrs. Irving B Schoenberg, is a
graduating senior at Dunwoody
High School, president of the
student council and a STAR
student for 1980.
WSB radio engineer Manuel
Tailz of Atlanta has received
national recognition for his
concise writing on a highlv-
tcchnical subject
BM E (Broadcast Management
Engineering) published monthly
for those in the technical and
management end of broadcast
engineering, chose Taitz as one of
the winners in its “Great Idea
Contest ”
In the December 1979 issue of
BM E. the WSB engineer, who
has worked at WSB since 1944 and
served as supervisor at the WSB
radio transmitter in Tucker since
I9SS, told his colleages in the
broadcast engineering field how to
construct a “Seven-Channel Audio
Switcher " An audio switcher is a
switching selector device used in
radio stations to mix and route
sounds used in the production of
all types of programs, including
commercials.
Taitz is a graduate of Georgia
Tech and the Capital Radio
Engineering Institute in
Washington, D.C.

Saturday Night Live’s Gilda
Radner, a/k/a Judy Miller,
Rhonda Weiss, Emily Litella and
Rosanne Rosannadanna, is now
starring in her own film, titled
appropriately “Gilda Live.”
The movie is a documentation of
her SRO broadway debut “Gilda
Live,” with a f*w choice behind-
the-scenes shots.
The Bar Mitzva of David Lee
Kay mon of Atlanta will take place
at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 10, at
the Temple. A congregational
kiddush will follow. David is the
son of Mr and Mrs. Paul Raymon
and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Lcff of Atlanta and the late
Mr and Mrs. Charles Z. Raymon
of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Bar Mitzva of Billy Planer
of Atlanta will take place at 9 a.m.,
Saturday, May 10, at Ahavath
Achim Synagogue. A congrega
tional kiddush will follow. Billy is
the son of Barbara and Richard
Planer and the grandson of Mrs.
Esther Planer of Charleston, S.C.,
and the late Mr. and Mrs. Isadore
Cooper of Norfolk, Va.

Joseph Schultz of Atlanta, a
10th grader at Northside High
School, is one of three Atlanta
students to win an essay contest on
“Israel and its People.”
The winners will be shlichim
(emissaries) of the United States
for one month in Israel. They will
live with Israeli families and talk
with aduifcs and students.
Joseph is the son of Dr. Myron
and Selma Schultz. He is a vice
president of USY, Ahavath Achim
Synagogue’s youth group.

Bill Bergen, son of Bob and
Sheila Bergen of Dunwoody, has
been named to the Dean's List at
Emory University for the fifth
consecutive quarter.
Roz Cohen, president,
Atlanta Section, National
Council of Jewish Women, has
been selected as one of the 19
Outstanding Young People of
Atlanta. Since 1999, T.O.Y.P.A.
(The Outstanding Young People
of Atlanta) has publicly honored
the achievements and dedication
of young people in Atlanta in
order to encourage other young
people toward higher aims in
their careers, community
service, or other worthwhile
endeavors.
Mrs. Cohen, a native
Atlantan, is a graduate of
Henry Grady High School and
Vanderbilt University. She is a
member of Congregation Or
VeShalom and serves on the
board of trustees for Senior
Services of Atlanta and he
advisory committee to the
Louis Kahn Group Home.
Shelley Pamarance, daughter of
Bea and Harry Pamarance of
Atlanta, is attending college for the
third quarter of 1980 at the
American Institute of Learning in
Paris, France. She will continue in
the honors program at the
University of Georgia in the fall

Metropolitan Opera star
Roberta Peters has accepted the
national chairmanship of the State
Of Israel Bonds Golda Meir Club,
a special honor society open to
women purchasing $5000 or more
in Israel Bonds.
Mrs. Jerome L. Stern of New
York, national women’s division
chairwoman of the Bond
Organization said, “Her leadership
points up to the importance of the
club, not only because of her
brilliant reputation but also her
life-long dedication to the cause of
Israel and the Jewish people."
President Jimmy Carter is congratulated by Professor Michael
Sela, president of the Weizntan Institute of Science, Israel’s prime
scientific research center, for receiving an honorary Ph.D. degree
from the Institute.
Also attending the presentation were (left to right) Samuel
Lewis, U.S. ambassador to Israel and Ephraim Evron, Israel’s
ambassador to the U.S.
The degree was awarded to President Carter in recognition of
his role in bringing the heads of the State of Israel and Egypt
together at the peace table at Camp David.
Oops! The youngsters pictured
in last week's issue of The

contribution to the Federation
Campaign were incorrectly
identified. They were from the
AJCC pre-school, not the Hebrew
Academy.
