AJCC to have Lamaze classes
Adult Enrichment
classes planned for winter
The Institute for Adult
Enrichment’s winter schedule of
classes offered by the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center and
Shearith Israel Synagogue will
begin Thursday, Jan. 6, and will
run for eight consecutive
Mondays, ending on Feb. 24.
Classes will include “Grooming
for Women,” “Financial
Planning,” “Ethics with the
Rabbi,” “Bridge,” “Issues
Affecting the Older Person,”
“News and Views,” “Personal
Computers,” “Fitness for All,”
"Painting ” and “Here’s to Your
Health.”

Marcus to be installed
at public ceremony
Steven E. Marcus will be
installed as master of Fulton
Lodge #216 F&AM, at. a public
installation ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Atlanta
Masonic Temple on Peachtree.
Marcus will be installed by
Harris Bullock, a past grand
master of the Masons in Georgia.
Light refreshments will be
served.
Atlanta dentists head
for ‘Diamond Jubilee’

Thirty Atlantans from the
Alpha Omega International
Dental Fraternity are off to New
York for the “Diamond Jubilee"
75th annual meeting of the
fraternity, according to chapter
president Dr. Paul Yurfest.
The annual convention will be
held from Dec. 25 through Jan. 2
at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New
York City.
Delegates to this year’s
convention are Drs. Paul Yurfest
and Ronald Wand. Drs. Harvey
Silverman and Sidney Touriai are
alternates. Also attending will be
the regent of this area. Dr.
Marshall Abes, two past
international presidents, Drs.
Marvin Goldstein and Ronald
Goldstein; and Mrs. Helen
Goldstein whose late husband, Dr.
Irving H. Goldstein, was also a
past international president.
The week-long meeting
activities will include those related
to the philanthropic activities and
the Diamond Jubilee socials. The
meeting will have delegates and
families in attendance from thirty
foreign countries. In addition, this
is one of the largest groups of
Atlantans ever to attend an
international Alpha Omega
meeting.
Alpha Omega is the only dental
fraternity with international
membership that represents the
interest of the Jewish dental
community. The Alpha Omega
Foundation has founded and
supports the School of Dental
Medicine at Hadassah University
and also the Dental School of Tel
Aviv.
Jewish marriage group
sets information night
The next Jewish Marriage
Encounter weekend will be held
Feb. 19-21 Anyone interested in
hearing what Marriage Encounter
has to offer married couples is
invited to an Information Night
either on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at
"E30 p m. at Cnnnrepatinn Ftz
Chaim; or Wednesday, Jan. 19, at
7:30 p.m. at Zaban Branch of
AJCC.

AJCC plans ‘Harmony’
Aerobic Dance classes
Jackie Sorensen’s Aerobic
Dancing is the original, complete
physical fitness program of easy-
to-learn dances choreographed for
cardiovascular and respiratory
conditioning while also toning the
muscles of the entire body. At the
end of a 12-week session, a student
will have danced a distance
equivalent to a marathon run.
Certified instructors lead
students in flexibility and warm-up
routines to loosen muscles and
prepare the heart and lungs. Heart
rates are taken manually after each
dance and monitored by the
instructor. The workout ends with
a cool down routine to slow the
activity level and gradually return
the heart-rate to normal.
The -next session, “Harmony," •
begins Jan. 10. Call the Aerobic
Dance office, 447-5630 or 447-
5631, to register.
At the AJCC on Peachtree,
classes will be held on Mondays
and Wednesdays at 9 a.m., 5:30
p.m. and 6:30 p.m. “Mainly for
Men,” a coed group, will meet on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
At Zaban branch, classes will be
held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9
a.m. “Mainly for Men” will be held
on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9
p.m., beginning on Feb. 7. The
“Mainly for Men” class at Zabai
will run for eight weeks at a cost of
$40 for members and $45 for non
members.
Fees for all other sessions will be
$55 for members and $60 for non
members. Baby-sitting is available
at both buildings during morning
classes.
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center will be offering a course
starting Jan. 27 for persons
interested in learning how to
finance the acquisition of a small
business or income-producing real
estate. Where to seek institutional
financing and how to make an
effective presentation will be
discussed.
The six-week program will be
solution oriented with participating
speakers from the SBA and the
banking community. Persons
wanting to purchase a small
business or make real estate
investments would benefit from
learning about leverage, appraisal
methods and techniques of
negotiating with lenders.
Atlanta USYers
head for Chicago
Chai USY’s largest gathering of
the year will be taking place Dec.
26-30 in the city of Chicago, 111.
Over 500 teens will take part in
USY’s international convention.
Atlanta’s delegates include:
Danny Arnold, Jonathan
Draluck, Ricky Harber, Marcia
Kaufman, Margo Kramarow,
Michelle Lifshen, Keith Rinzler,
Sammy Rosenberg and David
Stern.
Brian Glusman will be
accompanying the group as
adviser and educator for the
convention.
Home Family Council
changes meeting date
The Jewish Home Family
Council has changed its
originally scheduled meeting.
The council will now meet at
7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at the
Jewish Home.
JWV 112 and ladies
plan latke party
The Mack Frankel Atlanta Post
112 and its Ladies’ Auxiliary will
have a latke party at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday evening, Dec. 26, at Club
112, 3840 Roswell Road.
Price of the'buffet dairy supper
will be $5 a person. Because of
limited space at Club 112, only
Post and Auxiliary members,
mates and dates are invited. Call

Following dinner, Super Bingo
will be played. Elliott Goldberg
and Miriam Bromberg, co-
chairmen, have arranged for
special prizes. Watches and a
diamond and opal ring have been
donated for cover-all prizes, and
an AM-FM radio has been donated
for the door prize. Regular Bingo
prizes will be silver dollars. There
will be no additional charge to play
Bingo.
Everyone bringing a gift-
wrapped “fun” gift for a $1 value
will have the privilege of grabbing
a gift from the “grab bag."
The course instructor is Jerome
K. Chautin, president of Trust
Realty Funding, Inc., an Atlanta-
based mortgage banking and real
estate firm. Jerry has 20 years’
experience negotiating financing
and real estate transactions with
institutional investors. His
company specializes in collateralized
financing of small businesses and
income-producing real estate.
Chautin lectures and gives
workshops nationwide on real
estate and business financing. His
comments and articles have
appeared in various periodicals
and trade publications.

Lamaza childbirth prepares
both mother and father to actively
participate in the birth of their
baby. Participants will learn the
anatomy and physiology of labor
and delivery, the different stages of
labor and delivery and what to
expect at each stage. They will
learn and practice relaxation and
breathing exercises.
Classes begin Jan. 26 for women
A film produced at the Summit
Camp showing its concepts of a
therapeutically-oriented recreation
program, including academic
remediation will be presented at
two Atlanta locations on Sunday,
Jan. 9. The first showing is at 10
a.m. at the Hebrew Academy. A
second screening will follow at
12:15 p.m. at AJCCs Zaban
Branch.
Summit Camp is a Jewish
program in Honesdale, Pa., which
serves learning disabled /minimally
neurologically impaired boys and
girls between the ages of 7 and 17.
The camp features a natural foods
cuisine (no sugar, chemicals or
additives) and adheres to Jewish
dietary laws. Bar and bat mitzva
training is available. Summit’s
summer camp program is designed
to enhance self-image and to
develop lifetime recreational and
socialization skills.

Summit also sponsors an
American tour program for older
adolescents and young adults. It
has the same philosophy and
supervision as the camp.
Ms. Estelle Slomovitz is the
Southeast Regional camp
representative. She serves as a
counselor and youth adviser to the
general community, and has
planned, organized and
administered religious school
programs for the special child. Ms.
Slomovitz will be in Atlanta on
Jan. 9. She will show the film and
be available to answer questions
from interested parents.
Ms. Slomovitz will also describe
and show slides of Summit’s new
school year program in Israel for
the older learning disabled
student.
