50th anniversary
Psi DPhiEs step back in time
by Carolyn Gold
For a few brief shining hours it
was almost like being back in school
again. There were screams and
hugs as classmates found each other. -
There were songs and cheers too.
On Feb. l-3, DPhiE alumnae re
turned to Athens from 25 states,
from California to New York, to
join current sorority members for a
special 50th Anniversary celebra
tion. As many as 14 members of
one pledge class enjoyed this re
union.
At the Saturday luncheon they
searched out old composite pic
tures and scrapbooks. The sorority
house on South Lumpkin is more
plush than the one the graying
crowd remembered, but the girls’
rooms had the same look—pictures,
souvenirs, stuffed animals, banners.
Tours of the campus revealed
familiar old buildings, slightly
crowded by unrecognizable new
ones. Some well-remembered faces
were to be found, however. Carrie
came out of the DPhiE kitchen
where she has presided for 46 years
to greet each of her girls by name.
Dr. and Mrs. Sigmund Cohn
opened their Athens door and filled
an all-to-brief, but cherished, visit
with their ever-sharp observations
on the times, politics, his former
students, and life in general.
The Saturday night band was
Psi Chapter of DPhiE from the
louder than those in past years but
much of the spirit was the same.

Mrs. Evelyn Abroms.
Everywhere, from Friday to Sun
day, groups huddled, shifted, and
huddled. In some, pictures of grand
children were being shown and in
others, the talk was of budding ca
reers and boyfriends. The common
bond between these groups was the
happy times all had spent at the
University of Georgia and in DPhiE.
The present day sisters of Psi

Schwartz, Edie Cohen, and Sandy
Baumwald, put on a wonderfully
nostalgic 50th Anniversary week-
