end. The Friday night banquet in
the Tate Student Center was high
lighted by the presence of two of
the founders of Psi Chapter, char
ter members Ruth Kruger Singer
and Eleanor Goldberg Longwater.
At this event, Dr. Carole Win-
throp gave the keynote address
and William Mendenhall, associate
vice president, brought the univer
sity’s greetings of welcome. Delta
Phi Epsilon was founded at Geor
gia in 1935, when the University
was celebrating its 150th year. This
year both are observing significant
anniversaries.
Honored guests at the banquet
included the two founders, two pa
tronesses, and officers of the Inter
national sorority: Marci Gordon,
president; Rita Rossner, past pres
ident and executive director; Arleen
Kruger, past president and Psi
Alumna; and Sheila Adelman, sec
retary, also from Psi.
Over 400 people attended the
Saturday night dinner-dance, fil
ling the Athens Convention Cen
ter. Sunday morning almost as
many turned out for brunch at the
Continuing Education Center.
This grand finale served up a
rare combination of food and enter
tainment: University kugel (from a
specially-sent family recipe), a pol
ished chorus line called the DPhiE
Revue, and a delightful telephone
skit by Helene Schwartz and Edie
Cohen, showing a day in the real
life of sorority advisors.
Ever-present, cool, and collected
were the overall chairwomen of
this celebration, Beth Scheer and
her side-kick in charge of the din
ner dance, Mary Levy. These two
produced a blend of good planning
and hard work that earned well-de
served applause. Nearly 500 mem
bers, alumnae, and guests were
treated to the weekend’s festivities.
It was by all accounts a “great”
time—a chance to renew those
friendships made during that ex
posure to learning, the arts, and
fun that Athens afforded; a chance
to relive briefly that wonderful pro
cess called college.
