Camp Barney Medintz to hold alumni event
For a quarter of a century. Camp
Barney Medintz has been a special
summer place for Atlanta’s Jewish
community. Throughout the 25
years, some 3,500 staff have helped
shape the lives, values and aspira
tions of children and teenagers.
Many of these staff members
began their camping career as young
campers participating in the coun
selor-in-training program, working
as counselors, specialists and head
staff. Most staff alumni are now
involved in Jewish community
leadership roles as professionals
and volunteers.
Twenty-five years is cause for
celebration. Dr. Arthur Feinstein,
Camp Barney Medintz committee
chairman, announces Camp Bar
ney Medintz’s 25th anniversary
alumni celebration to be held
Memorial Day 1987 at CBM. Tracy
Holzer will chair the Alumni De
velopment Committee for the 25th
anniversary celebration.
Tracy’s association with camp
began when he was in village one
and re remained at CBM through
the counselor-in-training program.
From 1970-1976, Tracy spent his
summers working as a counselor
and specialist. Since 1984, he has
dedicated much of his time to the
CBM camp committee, working
on a variety of projects.
Holzer said, “Camp is a very
special place for many people. It
serves as a home away from home
and over the years we have built a
close knit family. Many special ties
and friendships have been lormed.
This 25th anniversary will be an
opportunity to honor these memo
ries and friendships.” He added,
“It’s a great excuse for all of us to
get away, go back to camp and
have fun together.”
Plans are now getting underway
for the alumni association and
cele iration weekend. There is much
wo k to be done. Committees are
forming for recruitment, publicity,
and program planning. Anyone
interested in helping, can call Steve
Mendel, 396-3250.
In order to update files on staff
members from 1963 to the present,
former staffers are asked to send
their name, address and telephone
number to: CBM, Zaban Building,
AJCC, 5342 Tilly Mill Road,
Dunwoody, Ga. 30338. Anyone
knowing of other staffs wherea
bouts are asked to spread the word.
